Training with Jeff Beitz was very instructive and everyone picked up a few tips. 13 Wayfarers started fist race, 5 in the 5th race. You should recognize all the names and they were on your spreadsheet. There was one new sailor, Simi Ahluwalia, from Conestoga Sailing club who tried racing for the first time. We discovered very graphically on Sunday that there is a serious mismatch between mast and sail on our CL16. We found the Sunday series of races beyond our capabilities. We simply could not flatten the main and with a loss of jib halliard tension we were overpowered. Short of giving up racing with Wayfarer in heavy weather our option is to possibly buy the woodie that Hans has in his workshop. This boat is structurally in bad shape but has a good rig. The owner, Gary, does not know the origin of the boat. I don't know the number of the boat but if you have any information on it, please pass it on. I could consider renovating the hull and even in the short term using the spar on the CL16 when racing against Wayfarers. The mast is Proctor made presumably the boom also. Selden spars seem to be preferred by the majority of racers. What do you think of a Proctor spar and are they all the same? We are on our way to Hans now to have a close look at the boat.
