2023.08.18  The Peterborough Sailing Club hosted the inaugural Wayfarer Heist Regatta on Clear Lake near Young’s Point on Saturday and Sunday, August 12-13. The PSC acquired several derelict Wayfarers from Toronto Sailing and Canoe Club (hence Wayfarer Heist) and these have now been restored by the club’s boat works crew. The Wayfarer is a British designed 16-foot dinghy with three sails — mainsail, jib and spinnaker - with over 11,000 now being sailed all over the world...

After Saturday’s rain delayed the initial racing, seven races were completed over the two days. A smoked brisket dinner was served to regatta participants on Saturday night.

The 3rd-seeded team of Mike Codd and son, Lee (above and below), of the Toronto Sailing and Canoe Club
finished first in W4600 Red Top, after counting 1-4-1-1-3-1 finishes for 11 points..

Series 2nd, only two points back of the Codds, were Leo Van Kampen and wife, Joanne, of the Conestoga Sailing Club,
sailing W10944 Cranky to 2-1-2-4-2-2 finishes.

Rob Wiersdma and daughter, Sam, the Peterborough Sailing Club took the Bronze (3-3-3-3-1-3: 16 points) in Pandamonium W10977.

4th place overall (2-5-4-2-3-4: 20 points) went to Scott Ramsay and Les Sherratt of the Conestoga C in W11280 Nehalennia
- a sparkling performance by the event's 7th-seeded team, one that gave them Most Improved honours.

Finishes of 5-6-2-5-7-1 in Zephyrus W10964 put Jan d’Ailly and Tom Legrady, also of the Conestoga Sailing Club into 5th place overall..

Series 6th (4-6-6-7-6-6) went to John Koetsier of the Mississauga SC in W11383 Groove Armada sailing local pick-up crew, Brian Stent.

Ken Faurschou and Gilles Beaulieu of the Peterborough Sailing Club took series 7th in one of the heisted Wayfarers, Blue Streak.

Also representing the Peterborough Sailing Club, Peter Malin and Gavin Kennedy ended up series 8th in the lone CL16 La Chica.

Oakville's David Pugh (MSC) and pick-up crew, Martin Shaw (PSC) sailing W11222 Sound Check saw their series come to a premature end after two races
when Martin fell into the boat at the dock and had to be taken to the hospital with broken ribs..

Also invited to unofficially join in with their Albacore were the brains behind the heist, Richard Sprik and Pam Leeuwestein.
