Long Distance Race on Parry Sound — July 20, 2025
The race was scheduled to start at 1:00 PM with a rabbit start. Conditions were 10–15 knots from the west, down the channel at the Lighthouse into Parry Sound. After much discussion on how to start a race into the wind but keep it inside Parry Sound, a plan emerged. Sue Pilling and Steph Romanluk would be the rabbit, and all boats had to sail into the wind and cross an imaginary line across the Bay before heading downwind.
The course then took the boats to the green marker off Wall Island and back into the wind to finish at the Lighthouse beach. Parry Sound was very choppy, but overall the sailing went well, with 10 boats successfully completing the course. Tom Graefe completed the course by exchanging crew—Nel was changed for Alan part way through the race.
In a close finish, Sue Pilling and Steph Romanluk managed to just beat out Kit and Patsy Wallace. Brian Hickman, with his grandson Eli Bouckhuyt, came in third. Eli also joined his grandfather for a Saturday sail.
