Someone one the Commodore's barge (a.k.a. the Shark Platypus) is saluting - or is he scratching his head? Which way to turn? Salute the keel boat behind him or ...
./..

... Uncle Al coming from in front??
./..

Formalities over, Kit Wallace moves beautifully off the RC boat end of the line with ...
./..

... only John Cawthorne giving any kind of challenge.
./..

Near Ontario Place, the inshore boats have discovered they'd be better off further out.
Heider (6) has tacked and Anne Armstrong is following his fine example.
./..

After nursing SHADES patiently off shore into a better breeze, Al and Dave have tacked
and are now in second place with their beady little eyes on John Cawthorne in first.
./..

Fine light-air trim for Anne and Gary - weight well forward and a slight heel to reduce wetted surface
and sails well eased to keep Saw Dust moving in the light airs.
./..

Hobbling along in 5th place, trying to reach the better breeze are Heider and Tom.
./..

Noise pollution as the Trillium, a former Island ferry, spews out rap at a million decibels while blocking our SE wind.
./..

Ivan takes his daughter to Ontario Place the cheap way.
./..

Not much wind as Andy and Len concentrate admirably on trying to reach the Western Gap.
./..

Steve Carroll and John Atwell had thought this might be good practice for the Worlds.
Let's hope it wasn't!!
./..

What wind there is now comes from astern as Kit and David have just passed the green buoy
that marks the official beginning of the Western Gap as per our SI's.
./..

13 Wayfarers in the Centreboard Class and one Fireball.
./..

The defending champs, Heider (r) and Tom appear under-amused ...
./..

... as they pursue the Armstrongs while John and Al fight it out for the lead near the last white marker.
./..

Anne smiles for the camera but ...
./..

... needs to concentrate on the task at hand or ...
./..

... Heider and Tom will sneak through.
./..

Feeling a slight movement of air on his back, Al decides it's time to gybe and heel the boat to reduce wetted surface.
./..

Right about here, Al noticed that John seemed to be getting close to some wind so Al gybed back smartly.
./..

The Eastern Gap: Kit and David (1037) are still in the fight for 3rd as they chase Heider and Tom.
./..

No more photos from Mike who got too busy doing RC work and towing becalmed W's like Steve above.
./..

Another becalmed group is ...
./..

... returned to the fold.
./..

Driver, Gordon, salutes his wife, the photographer.
./..

The last boats trickle in.
