The Mississauga SC Wayfarer/CL Regatta
Race 5.1
by Gord Leachman & Alan Hallwood

Sunday morning view of Rob and Sam from the MSC roof-top patio as they ghost out towards what appears to be a replica of Saturday, weather-wise. But actually, once we got started, around 10 a.m., the wind came up to a nice 5 knots or so. Sadly, we have no pictures of the start, which Mark and Paul Taylor aced and parlayed into a lead they would hold throughout the entire race. The first race 5 picture we have is a panoramic ...

... view of the fleet on the run of a once-around windward-leeward race. As can be seen from apparent mast height, Marc (2nd from left) is holding a nice lead while Al (l)  is probably 2nd, just ahead of Kit (3rd from left).

Rob (1050), even with no spi, is doing a nice job holding off Colin (929) and Rod (3568).
...

The crew-less Stuart (7660) is doing very well this morning, lying about 5th even without a chute.
...

Mark and Paul show how it should be done!
...

Concentration at its finest.
...

Colin nurses the SHADES chute through a soft patch.
...

It was as though he had been doing this for years.
...

Of course, Colin did make one rookie mistake: he forgot to bring his sunglasses. As it was he had to make do with Al's treasured W3854 cap. If you look closely, you can see the leeward barberhauler partially tightened to keep the leeward spi sheet from wedging itself between boom and shroud as Colin is flying the spinnaker "short" again.
...

Aboard Ab faB, we see fine form and concentration that is ...
...

... flawless. Note the mini-bowsprit intended to keep the spinnaker sheet
from going under the bow during the spinnaker takedown.
...

It's a really close one between ...
...

... Gary and Geoff (9483), but ...

... Gary is ...
...

... making his move.
