upwind form from the Midwinters
Hubert and Brian looking desperately for win

Bob and Peter - a bit tight on the leeches?

Bill and Frank heeling to reduce wetted surface

Joe and Jeff (hidden) do the same to good effect
Bob Brown will find this a good day to be crewless
Jim McIntyre tries out some "new" sails on Sunday
Uncle Al and Marc (3854) work hard to stay out of Peter Hylen's (2198) backwind
just after a start in Friday's best winds of the weekend. Nice mast bend on both boats.

Peter seems to be just that little bit closer to the dirty air from the group in front which is allowing Al to sneak through in clear air.
Note Bill Fyfe (937) already starting to pull away on his way to a runaway victory. Bill was very fast in these conditions!

a common sight Saturday and Sunday: Al (3854) covering Bill Abbott (9235) up the final beat
by staying between Bill and the finish line. As many as 25 tacks counted by the RC on one beat.
- larger image

a fine start for Hans who has Joe and Geoff just where he wants them ...
- larger image

...and Joe in turn has Al in his dirt while poor Gale (93) is about to get it from Joe and Al

Frank "Wayfarer Man" Goulay fixes something while Bill pulls away from Hans (938) whose main leech looks tight for the conditions?
- larger image

a sight Bill Abbott must have been a bit sick of by the end of the series: Bill in his typical position, a length or two behind SHADES

Geoff Edwards and Bob Frick move well ...

... as do Erik Beauchamp and Mike Murto.

No worries about rule 18.3 and tacking here as Hans and André round with a nice lead.

A fine day for a one-tack beat, says Al - and poor Bill Abbott with no place else to go!

Geoff and George in perfect light air form!

approaching the windward mark - but not too fast!
- larger image

also in good light air form: Uncle Al and Marc

Race 5: the leaders approach the first windward mark (off 937's bow) - left to right: Al, Bill A., Bill F. and Gale -
only the relative lengths of the masts shows that Uncle Al is probably in pretty good shape on Bill Abbott and so on.

a wider view of the same situation
- larger image
the usual: Uncle Al rounds just ahead of Bill Abbott - note the quick spi set by Marc -
of course at the speed we were going, this could have been quite a while after we rounded!
- larger image

not much later: Al and Bill just visible under Erik and Vicky Beauchamp's boom
- larger image

and a bit later still: the fleet is not very spread out as you can see! Erik and Vicky
could/should be sitting further forward to keep the W1378 stern out of the water
- larger image

a few seconds later

not much after that - note Bill Fyfe going high right after rounding to try for clearer air
- larger image

a couple of minutes later - note the excessively tight leech on W1378 (third from left)
probably due to some vang since the mainsheet appears to be nicely eased
