Marc's and Al's trip to the first Wayfarer Midwinters
plus sightseeing with our host, Bob Brown
..
Departure day: Friday 4 February 2000: SHADES and the good old 230,000 km. VW Golf are ready to head for the warmer climes of Lake Eustis, Florida, almost 2000 km. away!
.
After leaving on Friday evening about 5 p.m., Marc and Al drove through wintry but dry weather to Windsor, crossed the bridge into Detroit and stopped at a hotel in the middle of nowhere in northern Ohio just after midnight but in time to catch the last half of the America's Cup race on ESPN 2. After our early breakfast, the good old Golf took us through fair weather until we stopped for the night in Chattanooga, TN (left) just north the Georgia.

We reached Eustis late on Sun. aft., found the LESC and dropped off the boat. We met Bob Brown on Monday morning after disrupting Bob's birthday party with a phone call Sunday night. Bob would be our host starting Wed. as Marc and I were visiting some of Marc's relatives. We spent a lovely evening with Marc's Uncle Gene and his wife, Charmaine, mostly in MoJos, the Jamaican restaurant where Gene is the maitre d'. Wednesday, our stay with Bob got off to a flying start (right)

Lake Eustis is the one on the upper left of this photos, I believe

This is Bob's home airfield (in Tavares?), I think!

(above) flying more or less over Bob's Florida home one can the Lakeshore Road
which leads into Eustis and is a wonderful morning drive on the way to the sailing club

one last pass over the club - LESC just bought 500' of the Lake Eustis which extends the club's property to the right of the boat park you can see above
.
a lovely surprise for Marc and me, a Bob flew us to Cedar Key, about half an hour by air from Lake Eustis - and there it was, just like in a story book! What a great place!
