The Wayfarer
Midwinters of 2005 |
|
As Gale (4106) begins beat
#2, we can see that ... |
|
... Nick has made big gains
on this run and will round ... |
|
... 4th ahead of the
spinnaker-less Eddy (6751). |
|
Jim Lingeman rounds 6th, just
ahead of Joe (1115). Joe has the luxury of an ace
crew, his son Brian, |
|
Mike Murto (2959) will round
a close 8th, just ... |
|
... barely ahead of Robert
(green hull) and Richard (10139) who has moved up to
10th. |
|
With Jim Lingeman (2136)
pointing well and there being a port lift, Joe
(1115) will ... |
|
... try to power through to
leeward. |
|
It's the left-hand mark ... |
|
... for Richard. |
|
Mo and Andrew (10245) have Murphy's
Law very well balanced as they near the end of
the run. |
|
As
Dave Hepting rounds onto the beat, an interesting
situation is developing: Bob (black hull) appears to
have an overlap on Ted (off Dave's transom) because
the overlap is judged by drawing an imaginary line
at right angles to his boat's centreline through the
aftermost part of Ted's hull and equipment. Since
Ted has assumed his present course well outside the
Two-Length Zone, Bob gained this overlap in plenty
of time to be entitled to buoy room if he can get
there in time, which ... ... |
|
... he does! |
|
Robert Hart (green hull) gets
a nice lift inside Mike Murto (r) to start
beat #2 on a positive note. |
|
Meanwhile, Dave (2945) fights
it out with ... |
|
... Bob (3636) and ... |
|
...Ted (2415). |
|
Mike Murto (2959) crosses all
three of them. |
|
Only Robert (green hull) is
trimmed for optimum pointing here: |
|
That's better! |
