The Wayfarer Midwinters of 2005
Sunday: race 6 pics - 1

photos by Richard Kinnie

Another nicely square line as the final race is about to get underway, starting with ...
...

... the Flying Scots.
...

And, they're off!
...

For the finale, Uncle Al (3854) has switched places with Marvellous Marc Bennett.
...

Nick (nearest the camera) has staked out the spot nearest the ...
...

... RC boat. Marc, meanwhile, has decided he doesn't need the RC boat end, and is joining ...
...

... the parade of boats sailing down the line.
...

One second to go, and ...
...

... Peter and Frank (93) get the start. Good quick hiking converts a lovely, lifting gust into ...
...

... a fine early lead. Nick (864) has nice clear air in which he is outspeeding and outpointing Joe (1115). Richard (10139) is sailing way too low here and has nothing but trouble ahead if he doesn't pinch up now!!! By pinching up he will fall further behind Peter (93) and get clearer air. He doesn't want to tack here if he can avoid it because of the big starboard tack lift currently in effect. Marc (under the 1115 boom) has clear air but not much else going for him until the wind oscillates back.

...

Gale (4106) got his typical boat-end start but was late and is now eating Peter's (93) dirt.
Richard (10139) is finally pointing better and moving well as the wind begins to back (swing left) once more.
...

Mo, too, is having pointing problems in 10245.
With the wind backing, he might well want to tack here to get some clear air.
...

Excitement at the leeward end as Jim Lingeman (2136) goes head to head with Ted Benedict (2415) while
Geoff Edwards (9483) gets leftovers. To leeward of Geoff, we have the soloing Mike Murto wrestling with a puff.
...

Well! Nice to see you here at last, lads! Robert and Tony (10195) avoid the stress of
a crowded startline in a simple and time-honoured way, but even so ...
...

... they're still in good shape against the boats off their bow - as long as this starboard lift continues.
...

Eddy Kraft (l) has tacked into a nice lifted puff and is ...
...

... moving well!
...

Only a few moments ago (click here) Richard (10139) was to windward of Joe (1115) and looking great.
He must have stopped pinching? Time for a short tack to clear your air, Richard!!!
...

The guys to leeward seem to have a better lift than Joe (1115) and Gale (4106),
and Jim Lingeman (2136) is making his move.
...

Meanwhile, the Scots are just finishing their first beat, with the leaders starting ...
...

... their run as the Wayfarer leaders, Peter (l) and Marc (behind Scot #400) come in on the port layline.
...

Peter and Frank hold a nice, little lead as they near the mark.
