The Wayfarer Midwinters of 2005
Sunday: race 6 pics - 2

photos by Richard Kinnie

Peter just nicely lays the mark and ...
...

... heads for the offset mark, with Marc (3854) in ...
...

... reasonably close pursuit. Being the nice guy that he is, Wayfarer Man helps us out a bit by  ...
...

... putting a knot into his "chucker" (windward hoist, throwing the spi up and out). 3rd-place Nick misses
the fun as he is still desperately hoping to pinch around the mark without needing two more tacks.
...

Alas! No such luck. Two tacks so close together will kill Nick's speed and cost him most of ...
...

... his lead ...
...

... over Gale. Marc, meantime, has decided to hold starboard tack to start the run, seeing better breeze out to the right.
...

While Nick and Gale continue their close race, Richard and Michele arrive at the windward mark in 5th place,
having recovered remarkably well from their unpromising position the last time we saw them.
...

Now, Richard. Watch where you're going. And what's worse that extra distance
will need to be sailed straight downwind which is slow!!
...

Joe (1115) and Geoff are a close 6-7 and will be a ...
...

... threat to Richard, going ...
...

... down the upcoming run. And also still in fine shape is Ted (2415) as he rounds 8th.
...

Ah, the joys of small-lake sailing: The last we saw of Jim Lingeman (2136), he had Ted well and truly buried.
...

While Ted very nicely luffs his main to wait up for Jim, Robert roars into the mark in 10th.
...

But all six of these boats (and the two in front of them!) are still within striking distance of each other, and it will be a ...
...

... fun ...
...

... run!
...

And Mo (10245) is right in the hunt as well.
...

Lots of stress here for those in the boats but a lovely sight for the spectators.
...

Late but looking good as he reaches the mark is ...
...

... Eddy Kraft.
