pre-Midwinters fun - 2
(Captiva)
photos by Marc Bennett and Uncle Al

A couple of hours later our mini-convoy was paying the $6.00 to cross
the causeway to Sanibel Island off Fort Myers in warm sunshine.
...

This year, we knew where we wanted to go, the ...
...

... Tween Waters Inn near the north end of Captiva, which Marc and I had liked so much the previous year.
We were in luck - rooms were available. That done, we drove straight to ...
...

... The Mucky Duck ...
...

... right on the lovely Gulf beach where we had had a few beers
with the trio from the Irish bar in Fort Myers in 2005. Alas ...
...

... we had picked a bad day.
...

Still, the pool-side bar at the Tween Waters was not a bad stand-in as Nick discovers here.
...

The northern sky reflects the day's rain we had left behind in Tampa that morning.
...

While Marc went for another long walk and Nick napped, Al sat on the beach and watched the pelicans ...
...

... fishing.
...

It was quite a sight.
...

I decided to hang around to grab a few sunset pics.
...

Something else was likely on the heron's mind?
...

My artsy-fartsy pic of the week.
...

The sunset was a well attended event.
...

And it was ...
...

... indeed ...
...

... very ...
...

... much ...
...

... worth ...
...

... watching!
...

Marc, meanwhile,  was capturing the same great view from the front gate of the Tween Waters Inn.
...

That's all, folks!!! Soon we were off to do our Doc Ford pilgrimage, introducing Nick to Doc Ford's Sanibel Rum Bar & Grille. Again we had a fine dinner - which this year I was actually sober enough to remember - and a most interesting waitress. No book buys for Marc this year, as last year's Doc Ford novel, Dead of Night, was not yet out in paperback, and Dark Light, the latest Randy Wayne White offering is still a month away.
