The next morning, we were off to at long last give Marc his first look at the Keys. We left Nick behind to play a $105 round of golf on Sanibel before he would head back to Lake Eustis and set up the Dutchman. Marc and I drove south along the Gulf through a not terribly prepossessing Naples and on across the Everglades which from time to time figure prominently in Doc Ford's adventures. Alas, in broad daylight and from the highway, they seemed far less exciting than they always seem to be for Doc Ford. Although we did see one alligator crossing the road in front of us! Eventually we hit Hwy 1 north of Homestead, and duly arrived at ...

... the Keys which Marc pronounced to be very well worth the long, boring drive that preceded them. The drive was long enough that we never did stop at any of the marvellous picture-taking places and only got this pic which really does not do the Keys justice!! We in fact stopped only at a couple of book stores, a West Marine, and ...

... here where Al suddenly had to run in to address a very pressing case of the runs. The one toilet was plugged but Al could wait no longer and downloaded anyway. My apologies to the kind gentleman who let me use the facilities. Meanwhile, Marc wandered with his camera and found ...

... this: where else but in the Keys would you find a plane parked in someone's driveway!!??

By late afternoon, Marc had throttled the protests of his wallet and booked us into the 5th floor of the Radisson, a very ...
...

... nice hotel on the Gulf near the east end of Key West.
...

The view from the 5th floor was ...
...

... duly ...
...

... appreciated and ...
...

... enjoyed.
...

With sunset fast approaching, we drove clockwise around the perimeter of Key West, and ...
...

... got the obligatory picture of Marc standing beside the cement nun buoy that now ...

... marks the southernmost point (arrow above) in the continental United States.
...

Again, the pelicans were ...
...

... there.
...

A brief stroll through some of the interesting streets followed. And the chickens! Richard Johnson's W10139 ...

... would feel right at home here. In fact, Key West seems to carry the Free Range Chickin concept ...
...

... to great ...
...

... lengths.
...

It was indeed a lovely place to be on ...
...

... this winter evening.
...
Marc of course had to get the sunset from the White Street Pier while ...
...

... Uncle Al waited patiently.
