the 2006 Wayfarer Midwinters East
Lake Eustis SC, Eustis, FL * Feb. 3-5
blow-out Saturday - 3
photos by Dave Moring, Mo Metcalf, Mike Anspach, Marc Bennett, Jim Heffernan and Uncle Al

For comparison purposes, I have borrowed this photo from the 2003 Midwinters report,
a picture which gives a better idea of just how large the C Scow mainsail is!!
...

The C is flying as ...
...

... Dave and Scott bring back ...
...

... a gust from the Oyster Troff.
...

No slouches in the art of crowd pleasing, Scott and Dave prepare to give the outer platform of the T dock a ...
...

... close shave. Note the semi-circle track in the deck (r) which is part of the vang system that is so crucial such a large sail.
...

Wow!
...

What a ...
...

... day!!
...

Note the fine hiking form as ...
...

... Scott (l) and Dave again ...
...

... buzz the dock!!
...

Are we having fun yet?
...

I would guess that we are!!
...

The dock approach on this side of the T will be more challenging, what with ...
...

... two boats taking up much of the room. To port or to starboard of the Scot? That is the question.
Last minute plan changes by the skipper often make life difficult for ...
...

... the crew!!
...

But Dave did not let go of the painter, and, dutiful crew that he is,
Dave pulls the C upwind until skipper Scott can just casually step "ashore".
...

Some time later: Richard and Steve (10139) return from their nautical romp.
Chasing them is Scott who is kindly taking Uncle Al for his first C Scow ride.
...

The Chickin comes home to roost.
...

Is this how one trolls for alligators, Richard?
...

The C was a lot of fun as we ...
...

... got to ...
...

... buzz the dock ...
...

... a few more ...
...

... times.
...

It was a great ride!
...

Note the boom bend!
...

No problems with the landing this time, and ...
...

... Uncle Al is a happier man for the experience!
...

Linda and Jim Heffernan enjoy their re-incarnation as Wayfarers.
...

The lovely Eustis sunset still saw ample and revitalized breezes. But there was hope:
the forecast was pretty much ideal for Sunday, our last chance at getting some races in.
...

The Oyster Troff Committee (r to l: Scott, Kevin Rankin and Dave) welcomes its newest member, Marc Bennett (l). Having duly disposed of the night's mussels, the day's catch was examined as Dave and Al had brought their digital cameras. Dave had his laptop as well, so that we got to admire our afternoon sailing selves in pixels. Thanks for the terrific photos, Dave!
