the 2006 Wayfarer Midwinters East
Lake Eustis SC, Eustis, FL * Feb. 3-5
Sunday: Race 3.3

No big rush among the Wayfarer leaders, both of whom are sailing with new crews.
Gale and Gary are the first to unleash their spinnaker while Marc and Michele continue to get organized.
...

Following in fairly close pursuit are (l to r) Joe, Richard, Jim and Butch.
If Richard can hold this position (4th), he will take series 3rd ahead of Butch who currently lies 6th.
...

Joe and Brian (1115) pull away while Uncle Al tries to get his windward sheet in and cleated.
...

Marc and Michele (l) finally have things straightened away and are pulling away from Gale and Gary (2nd from right).
...

Butch and Ellen wisely aim their spinnaker to leeward of Jim and Mike where they can't be luffed up.
...

The W leaders from left to right: Marc, Joe, Gale and Richard with two more threats ...
...

... Butch (yellow & black spi) and Jim (r) ...

... waiting to pounce. Meanwhile, the Hylens approach the windward mark.
...

Meanwhile, Jeff and Amy Linton close in on their second Scot "bullet" of the series. They will beat ...
...

... Chuck Lieb and Jelly Roll Morton for whom a third-race second place finish will ...
...

... wrap up a 2-1-2 series and ...
...

... the Scot title for this event.
...

Robby Brown and Jay Clarke's 3rd in FS5222  will give them a  3-2-3 series
and second overall, one point ahead of the Lintons' 1-7-1 tally.

Spectators??
...

And now the RC is ready to record the Wayfarers.
...

Marc Bennett and Michele Parish (3854) cruise in to win both the race and the Wayfarer series.
...

In this close race as Gale and Gary (right off Marc's transom) will place no better than 4th.
...

An amazing comeback on the final leg for Butch and Ellen (blue hull) who have been making the most of their puffs and shifts.
...

Joe (red hull) continues to sit on Richard as these two near the line.
...

Butch and Ellen pulled another rabbit from the hat with a 2nd that almost moved them past Joe into series 2nd,
and killed off any of Richard's and Uncle Al's hopes (yellow hull) of a top-three finish for the 2006 Midwinters.
...

Butch and Ellen get the beep to confirm their series 3rd. Joe and Gale will finish 3-4 in this close race before Richard and Al will round out the top five. Jim Lingeman and Mike Tighe will finish a well sailed race in a close 6th despite their lack of spinnaker.
