the 2011
Wayfarer Midwinters Friday: race 3 pics - 5 & post-race by Jim Orth and Richard Watterson ... |
The camera follows Jim and
Dean as they round the windward and offset marks in
exemplary form. ... |
Note the windward heel to
help 3991 bear off, and the resulting absence of rudder
turbulence! ... |
Also looking fine are the
two Jims. ... |
The fleet has really spread
out in this race. Note how far down the run Mike Murto (l) has
already spinnakered. Here we have Jim L (under the 3473 boom), followed by Jimmy Mac and Pat Baldwin. ...... |
A very nice approach to the
offset mark for Pat and Ed. Windward heel right here will
- as mentioned earlier - encourage Wayward Wayfarer to bear away around the mark, as will letting the main out right about now. ... |
Izak maintains his hold on
last place. ... |
For what it's worth,
Uncle Al and Tony pulled away to win handily while
Richard and Michele nailed down 2nd place ahead of Jim
and Linda. With these three crews having made the top
three their private preserve in the day's racing, it
looked like the top three among the spinnaker boats (and
overall) was pretty well decided. Little did we know!!
Butch and Janice took 4th in the day's finale while Ted
Benedict completed quite a fine day (8-6-5) with his
5th.

The 2011 AGM of the USWA
has been convened, in surroundings that the CWA certainly
cannot match. ... |
Like Mary Krauss (l) Richard
Watterson is a fan of the ... ... |
... lovely sunset. ... |
For those reliving these
fine times, most of us then went off for a quick rinse -
Mary, Tony and I showered and changed at the home of our
lovely hosts, Dotty and Mike Murto - after which we
reconvened at the Quarterdeck
in Umatilla the way we do every Midwinters Friday. ... |
