the 2011 Wayfarer Midwinters
Saturday pics - 1

...

Saturday morning arrived with a fair bit more wind and somewhat cooler temperatures
for which Richard and Michele have already dressed. Others from l to r: Peter and Alex Rahn, Tony Krauss
...

Putting a brave face on things are Peter and Alex who are about to head home early due to Peter's locked-up knee.

Butch and Janice launch off "our" beach into a more or less ...

... southerly wind. Today, we are of course, sharing the race course with our friends, the MCs.
...

Some of the kiddies are eager to get closer to the action.
...

Butch and Janice head out to race #4. Sadly, we will not have Jim Orth's photographic talents available to us Saturday or Sunday so that the few action shots we got were taken by Mary who was watching races 4 and 5 from the dock. The CWA camera has good zoom and lens capability but unfortunately the air is not the clearest today - as you will soon see.
...

Interesting to see how big the MC's sail is as we see Scott Tillema (2420) beside the Minsons (3951).
...

This will be a far more challenging day for solo Ted who wisely ...
...

... hangs off a mooring to hoist his sails. I hope his board is fully up as a safety cushion until Ted gets back to his tiller.
...

Nicely done, and Ted is off.

One of our much appreciated safety boats is poised to go on duty as ...

New sailor, Diane, does not feel up to this much excitement, so Team Watterson packs it in - for now!!!   - click here for larger image

Wait a minute!! I know I still have a picture of the appropriate shirt in my archives somewhere, the shirt that Richard should be wearing here. Time out!!! Aha! Found it minutes later in the nostalgia section of the Whiffle Web, the Trout Lake (North Bay) Wayfarer Weekend 1980: Russ Burrell wearing the shirt, as he and Rocket Roy Riddell are about to take a morning dip in gorgeous, pristine Trout Lake:

Al's note: For what it's worth, a little photographic tip: I digitized this picture by projecting the original slide onto a bit of Bristol board taped to my basement wall about eight feet from the projector. I put the CWA camera on a tripod and set it for a two-second time delay exposure so that any vibrations from my clicking the shutter (no cable release capability!) have faded before the camera takes a picture of the slide projection. No flash, of course!! Pretty amazing results if I do say so myself. Once you're set up, you can do bunches of slides amazingly quickly. It's getting around to it that seems to be my problem.

the royal wave to photographer, Mary?
...

Is it just my imagination or does Diane look like her eyes are saying rescue me, I need someone
to go to the art show with me, anywhere but here - and there went Mary, my afternoon photographer!!
...

Yup. I'd say Richard needs that shirt all right.
