Friday at the North Americans
pics by Uncle Al
...
Nick Seraphinoff works hard to get his original Wayfarer race-ready on the Friday.
..
Local J-22 sailors, Don Thwing Jr. and his son, Don the Third, borrowed another of the Seraphinoff Wayfarer fleet for the North Americans. W560 used to be campaigned by Don Parker and is now sailed by Nick' son, Nicky.
..
Don and Don head out past the Tawas Coast Guard station for a Friday evening practice run.
..
"So, tell me, what does this rope do??"
..
Meanwhile, the reclamation project has left the garage and is being put into racing trim
by Matt Princing (l) and John McCree as Nick looks on.
..
After a leisurely trip all the way from Ottawa, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Goulay have arrived...
..
... and compares notes with another pair of weary, long-distance travellers, Alex and Peter Rahn of Bainsville, ON.
..
John and Matt explain to Mary Seraphinoff how they're fixing the latest addition to the Seraphinoff stable.
..
A spinnaker borrowed from John deBoer gets a critical eye.
..
Another lovely Tawas sunset.
..
"I don't know, guys," says Mary, "that slot looks a bit tight to me."
..
Wayfarer Man and Matt Princing ...
..
... and John McCree go over the finer points of the Wayfarer spinnaker...
..
..... while Nick and Mary discuss the programme with the TBYC liaison.
..
Winds getting gustier from the east...
..
... as the Thwings return ...
..
... from their shakedown cruise.
..
Hope this gusts passes before the boys run out of harbour room!!
It's safer, especially for beginners, come come under jib alone with the wind well aft.
..
Dolores and John deBoer have cycled over from their "home" at the Tawas Point State Park next door.
..
TBYC sunsets always seem to be ...
..
... worth watching.
..
Looks like we'll have a good, stiff easterly for the night.
..
One more quick sunset shot before Uncle Al grudgingly heads off to have more liquid refreshment chez les Seraphinoff.
