Another
bonus of Al's choice of marks is that Heider (6) now has to sail
through disturbed water and air to get over to cover Al. ... |
As
the four leaders near the start/finish area on their way up the second

Paul (7380) retains the lead over Heider (6) while Uncle Al (3854)
remains a solid third place. ... |
Light
airs: Hans Gottschling's forte!! ... |
Geoff
Edwards and George Waller look good as they come across on starboard. ... |
Starting
the second and final run, Heider (6) has taken the lead from Paul
(yellow & green spi), while Al (3854) continues to have pointing
problems and may be hard pressed to stay ahead of Nick Seraphinoff (l)
and George Blanchard (CAN80).

Heider
and Tom (6) cleverly defend the inside while Al (red spi) and Peter
Rahn (286) hope for a puff that will bring them back up with the
leaders. ... |
It's
a close fight among many W's over 5th place. ... |
Just
what we need on a light-air run: f...ing motor boat waves!! ... |
Heider
is about to win race 1 with ease after Paul (just visible behind
Heider) sailed into the dead spot. In fact, Al and Peter who rounded 3
and 4 at the right end of the gate have sailed into a nice breeze ...

and are now a definite threat for 2nd place. In the end, Paul (l)
sailed into another soft spot as Al rolled by into 2nd. Paul then made
the mistake of tacking when he was in pretty good shape to lay RC boat
at the finish line (from which this photo was taken) and lost Peter as
well. A truly unfortunate ending to a very well sailed race for Paul
and Alan Laderoute who deserved a better fate!

So
young, and already Dusan Vendely has discovered the comfort of the
Darrell Hicks position (leaning against the aft bulkhead) - comfortable
but slow since it makes the transom drag!

Richard
Johnson (hiking) and Jim Higgins have the Chickin going great
guns as they cross the finish line. ... |
Thomas
Vendely in good form but likely in need of a new(er) main as he
finishes. ... |
Richard
Johnson expresses his joy at sailing in a W fleet of more than two! ... |

Mike
Codd, caught in a rare scowling moment - no doubt vowing to do better
next race, which he and George most certainly did!!!!. |
