Lucky Al (3854)!!! A starboard knock did indeed come through. Both he and John (7351) have of course
tacked on that knock and are now lifted on port. This is not good news for Dwight who went right!!
...

Having easily crossed Michael (300) and Lori, Sue and Steph are about to ...
...

... shave ...
...

... the transom of the RC boat as they dig back in towards the middle.
...

Lucky John! A beautiful, juicy port lift lets him easily pass to windward of the RC boat and move past Sue.
...

By the time Dave and Carol reach the RC boat, the ...
...

... wind has oscillated once more to favour starboard tack.
...

Look at those lovely legs as Ross Jamieson and daughter, Breanne, squeak past the RC boat on port.
...

Starting the run, Al (3854) has indeed re-taken the lead from Dwight (4606). Now that the spi is up and flying, Al will ...
...

... rush over and move to defend the left side of the run. Meanwhile, it's still anybody's race between
Sue (4677) and John, while Tony (l)  seems to have a solid grip on 5th place.   - click here for full-size pic
...

It's quite a sight as the fleet bears down on the photographer aboard the RC boat.
...

Looks like Fred and John (7379) will give Tony and Mary (4105) a run for their money, if they can ...
...

... get that spinny going. In their close race with Sue ...   - click here for full-size pic

... John and Dolores are wisely sticking to the rhumb line and defending ...
...

... the left side against ...

... Steph (l).

Using a nice funneling effect provided by the gap in the sails behind them - Dave R. (4782), Lori (3140) and Michael - Tony ...
...

... and Mary ...
...

... are more than holding their own against ...
...

... the dreaded Fred (7379) whose spinnaker is oversheeted and whose wind is being nibbled at by Geoff.
...

Going up the middle is also paying off for Andrew and Michele (9657) who are making their move on Michael and Pat.
...

A study in concentration are Michele and Andrew!
...

Poor Michael! Now Dave and Kim are ...
...

... moving up on him as well!
...

With the Terrace Suites, Al and Julia's home for this weekend, as a backdrop, most of the fleet nears the leeward mark and the start of the final short beat to the finish. With the left side looking attractive to them, Al and Marc (3854) decided to tack early, rather than wait for Dwight to tack and then risk having to sail through the mess of downwind boats - their wakes and their wind shadows - if Dwight timed his tack right. Here they are about to tack, now that the main mess has passed.
