Course for Race #4: start (A-B) - O - 1 - 4 - 1 - finish (A-B), buoys to port
...

As Al heads for the cliff where the breeze does look a tad healthier, he is knocked, but does not tack.
...

Aerial (cliff-top) view as Al comes closer to the cliff than he would usually do because he is waiting for ...
...

... Jens (7663) to tack first. Eeek! A rather grim start for John (7351). Luckily for him and Dolores, this is the kind of a beat where there will be lots of shifts and dead spots that will give the wily veteran lots of chances to catch up! The de Boers will, in fact, finish 3rd!!!
...

Not much to write home about in the middle right now. At this time, Al (out of the picture to the left) has a funnelling breeze
and a port lift under the cliff, and he and Julia are well on their way to locking up this race early.
...

The first Laser run: That whippersnapper, Kevin, once more holds the Laser lead, just ahead of brother, Brad.
...

close quarters on the Laser run: (l to r) Frank, Jon, Rick
...

Kevin (2581) meets Jamie off the Hut.
...

Roy and Bobby pass the Hut on their way to #1.
...

Talk about a late start: Sue Goldt (3434) is off at last! Meanwhile, it looks like staying in the wind funnel under the cliff is paying off for Brad who has moved into Laser 1st ahead of Kevin. 3rd-place Rick also seems to be catching up by being just that little bit closer to shore.
...
Meanwhile, Richard (2794) and Ed battle it out along the eastern shore.
...

Making sure they keep clear of Shawn and Andrew (leeward), Al and Julia (red spi) ...
...

... keep SHADES in ...
...

... perfect trim ...
Note that Ed has tacked away from Richard - which seems a wise move since they're nearly on the starboard lay line.
...

... as they pass the start/finish line while cutting across from the Hut beach towards #1.
...

Race 4, the second lap: a 1-4 windward-leeward plus a beat to the finish at A-B
...

A nice cliff-top view as Kevin gurgles nicely up his second beat!
...

Al and Julia hit one of the numerous soft spots as they prepare to cross the mouth of Wye Creek.
...

John and Dolores (7351) have come back from their unfortunate start, all the way to 2nd place ahead of ...
...

... Jens and Sharon.
...

But it's a long race yet, with many a dead spot still to cross. John, in fact, seems to have located one right now!!
...

Looks like Dwight (l) has decided to gybe over to share in that nice breeze Roger (7700) is getting.
...

Alas! He's left it a bit late, and Mike (CAN90) and Sue ...
...

... will roll on past.
...

And then, by the time they regain clear air, the puff has passed them by!
...

The fun of ...
...

... Fanshawe!!
