Thousand Islands, St. Lawrence River,

by Uncle Al

It was great to be sailing the Wayfarer which could hug the shore with little fear of running aground.
On this very hot day, the water was the only place to be!!
...

Lots of lovely summer homes to admire!
...

Soon we were passing the western end of ...
...

... the extensive Cedar Point State Park.
...

Bill and Margie had gone out for an afternoon run under well shortened sail: note the "storm" jib. Officially, this is the Wayfarer jib, while the one most of us use most of the time is the "genoa".
...

Note the interesting set-up that Bill has for his mainsheet which can't come from mid-boom when his main is reefed by being rolled around his boom - hence the name: roller reefing, I think. A drawback of this system is the inability to use a vang.
...

It was a fine day on which to take ...
...

... the family ...
...

... fishing. It was still quite blowy out on the river, but ...
...

... in here, the shelter was excellent.
...

The jib comes down and ...
...

... the paddle comes out. "Would the captain care to go water-skiing, Sir?"
...

A lovely scene.

Julia (red PFD) cleans up on SHADES. Eek! We're in the wrong slip. We were in the midst of a gust as we sailed up here and my attention was understandably elsewhere when I mistakenly thought Tom (r) was in our slip and waving us into his, i.e. that we were trading. Alas,  this turned out to be Dick's slip, a fact of which I was made aware in no uncertain terms,  when Dick and Chuck arrived back from their long sail to Cape Vincent and back. You know, just talking about that hot, great day, makes me wish I were enjoying another one of those lovely Grolsch beers with the re-sealable bottle right now!
...

Uncle Tom Graefe (l) gives his brother's family the guided tour. (l to r) Tom, Dana, Adam, Steve
...

chez André et Monique: it's been a wet sail, and lucky André had his shore team (Monique)
to hang not only wet clothes but wet charts out to dry!
...

Last night, the Fair View Manor was closed when we checked it out.
...

But their notice indicated they were only closed on Mondays, so ...
...

... we tried again on Tuesday night!
...

Apparently this was originally some rich guy's summer home which then ...
...

... became a convent in the early 60s.
...

Now it is a restaurant and lodge with ...
...

... a lovely patio that overlooks ...
...
... the St. Lawrence River.
...

On this hot night, we chose the airconditioned indoors. (l to r) Chuck and Ginny, Julia (back turned), Kit Wallace and Patsy
...

It's a beautiful spot indeed!
