the 2007 Rock Hall Weekend
Sunday: awards & aftermath

pics mostly by Uncle Al
...

Awards presentations were made in the Charles and Linda Parry Pavilion. Chuck and his wife are like a pair of George Blanchards when it comes to doing things for the Rock Hall YC.

Chip Lieber gets set to open the proceedings with ...
...

... a happy audience ...
...

... who have enjoyed ...
...

... another fine regatta courtesy of the folks at the Rock Hall YC.
I know all 12 Wayfarer teams were very impressed and have indicated they will be back in 2008.
...

And there, on the far right, are ...
...

... Chuck and Linda (my smoking buddy!).
...

Chuck, one more time: a local legend when it comes to promoting sailing. Thanks for all you do for us, Chuck!!
...

Some of us Wayfarers do ...
...

... look a bit tired, though!
...

Angela (l) and Marina get set to applaud for when Grampa Nick and Aunt Julie go up for their awards.

Colette has a very pretty smile for the camera.

John Macielag, skipper of the Log Canoe, hoists his trophy.
...

This having been the Wayfarers' U.S. Nationals, USWA Commodore, Mike Anspach, does the W awards.
...

First overall and U.S. National champions, from London, Ontario: John and Dolores de Boer
...

Placing 2nd after losing the tie breaker: Al Schonborn and Marc Bennett from Oakville and Pickering, Ontario respectively.
...

And in 3rd place, from various locations in Michigan: Nick Seraphinoff and his daughter, Julie, who also ...
...

... also took home the Designer's Trophy as the top-placed USWA team.
...

Tied as this year's Most Improved teams were (l to r) Jason Hassard and Lori Beehler of Ottawa, ON, and our only Rock Hall-based Wayfarer, Frank Pedersen whose daughter, Sarah, came all the way from Idaho to sail with dear old dad!!
...

Mike Murto (l) and Dave Hepting of Lake Eustis SC, NW of Orlando in Florida, display their Top of the Bottom Award, which, as the name implies, goes to the top-placed team in the bottom half of the fleet.

Even Uncle Al, seated with the other kiddies in the front row, got into this one.
And note how he's ending the Rock Hall Weekend the way he began it - with a Dark 'n Stormy!!!

But for Marc and me, the ultimate highlight of the whole trip to Rock Hall was, unbeknownst to us, yet to come. In the morning, we had said our thank you's and farewells to Lee and Karin (centre above), planning only to quickly drop by to pick up our stuff, before heading out to knock off a few hours from our trip home before bedding down. But the afternoon had kind of been stretched out, and Marc and I decided we would see if we couldn't take Karin and Lee out to dinner and beg another night in their lovely Castle and then start back home very early in the morning. Karen said that could be arranged but only if we were willing to join them for dinner at home. Further, Karin had already washed our sheets (see evidence above), and we'd have to make do with a blanket. And yes, they could make room for one more - Julie (r) - and so, a memorable evening of dining and great conversation was underway.
...

Not only is Lee an accredited bartender, but a gourmet chef as well.
...

Wary eyes in the Castle's frog pond, but it's OK, fellas ...
...

... no frogs' legs on the menu tonight!
...

Delicious steak and wine, not to mention Lee's full-strength Dark 'n Stormies are ready to be delighted in. Note how cleverly Uncle Al (l) is keeping the bugs away with his smokes. (l to r) Al, Karin, Lee, Marc
...

One more shot - with Julie - and then we can eat!!
...

And what a superlative evening it turned out to be! Thanks a million, Lee and Karin!!
