Warm Water 2001: action on the water - 1

Having finally broken into (?) the gas shed, a busy RC gets set to start us off on a gray Saturday morning.
Note Klas Bockasten's nicely refurbished W296, Blu J.
..
When Uncle Al returned from an early Sunday morning coffee at the Timmie's in Listowel, the sun was shining.
...
The last few minutes of sun for the day were to be caught at about 6 a.m.
...
Race #2: Just after the start of a beat towards the dam.
(left to right) Doug Ryan (3664), Uncle Al (3854), Peter Rahn (5631 aka 286), Rick Goldt (7660) and Brian Jeffs (9235)
..
Heading left towards the point: (l to r) It was Grant Town's turn to helm 9239, Uncle Al, Peter Rahn and Rick Goldt
..
The same four cross Dwight Aplevich (4606) who comes out of the left corner on port.
..
Peter Rahn (5631) gets the inside of a lift on Rick Goldt.
..
The first reach: Grant Town (red & white spi) rounded first with Uncle Al (orange, white, gray) and Peter Rahn (white, black, red, yellow) within striking distance. Rick Goldt (7660) waits to see if the spi is feasible while 5th-place Dwight goes for it right away.
..
About 200 metres from the gybe mark
..
A close battle among Al Nichols (7380), Doug Ryan (3664) with Chris getting hourglass-removal practice, and George Blanchard (CAN80)
..
The whole fleet: Uncle Al has moved past Grant Town to windward just in time for the gybe while Peter Rahn appears to be positioned to call on Grant for room. Dwight and Rick also set to make a move. A more peaceful position for Brian Jeffs in the middle while Al Nichols (yellow and blue) begins to move away as Chris Ryan's hourglass continues and George gets a puff.
..
A nice spi gybe for young Dave aboard SHADES while Grant gets the inside on Peter. Dwight will have rights to room on Rick.
Brian Jeffs has moved up on the leaders considerably.
..
Brian (red, white & blue spi) continues to close in as the leaders disturb each other's wind.
Not visible in this shot is Grant Town who decided to go high on the second reach.
..
As the rain really starts to come down, Peter, Al and Brian make the move to the right side that will ultimately leave them in 1-2-3 for the race.
..
Having "seen the light", Grant, Rick and Dwight follow the leaders to the right.
The CSC may not boast showers in the clubhouse but they do have them on the water!
..
A fine duel between George Blanchard with Mike Codd, and Al Nichols with Mike Miethig.
