CANADIAN WAYFARER ASSOCIATION
Minutes of the Annual General Meeting held 22 Jan 05 at the TS&CC

Chairman, George Blanchard, called the meeting to order at 1730 on a snowy evening with 8 members and two wives in attendance. Several additional members joined in later.

Minutes of last year’s AGM had been distributed, and Secretary, Fred Black, moved their adoption. Mike Codd seconded, and the motion was carried.

Financial Report:  Treasurer, Mike Codd, pointed out that although revenues were down by $1,900 (largely due to the popularity of the $20 e-mail only memberships) this was offset by reduced postage costs, and our net worth remained constant from last year at $6,500. The largest cost was web site-related materials. The cost of flags and trophies exceeds the regatta revenues, a matter which will be left to the CWA Executive to deal with at their next meeting. Following discussion, the report was seconded by Bill Fyfe, and adopted.

Chairman’s Report: George Blanchard stated that our Worlds ‘04 Regatta Chairman, John Weakley, had been invited to attend the AGM & Awards Dinner so that we could recognize his contributions to the class with an Honorary Life Membership. George read out John’s letter in which he explained that a Florida commitment would prevent his attendance. The letter went on to single out association members who had assisted him, and graciously attributed the Worlds' success to them. George next tabled the ‘05 slate of executives and fleet representatives that he had assembled. Bill Fyfe graciously accepted our unanimous request that he take over as Chief Measurer from Len Macdougall who is retiring after many years in that position but who will stay on as London's Fleet Measurer. Mike seconded the Chairman's report, and the meeting adopted it.

New Rules Nos. 2.7 and 2.8 had been proposed by the UKWA to impose sensible limitations on the rebuilding of Wayfarers. The meeting voted unanimously to endorse them.

Adjournment was at 1840, upon a motion by Frank Goulay, whereupon 28 members and guests assembled in the lounge for our buffet.

Following the dinner, Mike took the floor to award door prizes, to share John Weakley’s letter with the whole group, and to acknowledge the roles of his wife, our caterer, and the club manager in putting together our evening. He then made the following trophy awards:

Storer Trophy for top combined regatta results.............................................................Al Schoenborn, Marc Bennett, Frank Goulay
