The
Wayfarer Midwinters of 2005 |
No shots of the race 4
start for Wayfarers. As I recall, the fleet got away
to a nice, clean
start off a square line. |
|
In
this, the only pic
from the first beat, we have Jim Lingeman (2136)
about to be a problem
to the duelling port-tackers, Nick Seraphinoff (864)
and Al Schonborn
(3854). This picture, taken with a zoom lens, had
best be deceiving, or
otherwise Al has tacked right into Nick's "dirt". ... |
|
Actually, this is a
second picture from our first beat, showing our
closely bunched fleet
nearing the windward mark, as ... |
|
... the Scots sail the
nice, sunny breeze down their first run. |
|
I think Peter and Frank
(nearest the camera) may have rounded first, just
ahead of Al. Here,
the leaders do a fast hoist after a gybe at the
offset mark which Geoff
(9483) and Joe (1115) are just approaching. |
|
Here we see Nick and
Joe (864) who also gybed around the offset mark and
who are preparing
for their spinnaker hoist. The Non-Spinnaker series
leaders, Jim
Lingeman (2136) and Gale Shoemaker (under Nick's
boom) are again ... |
|
... in a close battle. |
|
An early gybe to port
for Richard and Michele - heavy-duty wrinkles in
that "new" main,
though! |
|
A nice puff for ... |
|
...Peter and Frank. |
|
Nick and Joe complete
their gybe. Main leech is on the tight side? |
|
Richard, Michele and
the Chick'n looking good - wrinkles gone
from the main, too. |
|
Perfect trim for Peter
and Frank. |
|
The view from SHADES. |
|
It's a close race! |
|
Jim Lingeman in perfect
... |
|
... two-sail form. |
|
A nervous glance astern
as Peter passes Scot #4921, and the close race ... |
|
... continues with Al
and Marc holding ... |
|
... a narrow lead. |
|
The view from SHADES

|
... five ... |
|
|
... times. |
