.....
Under a minute to go before the start of race #4: (left to right) Peter Rahn with Stefan Larson and Keith Haill visible under his boom, Ryan Mahaffey (7380), Hazel Hewitt (4107), Randy Park (3613) and Fred Black (7379) in his usual spot at the pin end of the line.
.....
Under 10 seconds to go: Uncle Al and Frank hover beside the RC boat, a spot chosen for its attendant freedom to tack. Al will move forward to the thwart as he sheets in and goes (I hope!),
.....
Oops! A classic example of line sag here as the gun will go in under 5 seconds. (left to right) Uncle Al (3854) with Peter Ayres (1191) right to leeward of him, Peter Rahn (5631) with Keith Haill (grey boat) almost hidden from view behind Peter, Hazel Hewitt (4107) partially obscuring Ryan Mahaffey, Randy Park (3613) with his Sunday crew, Joanne Kumpf, and Fred Black (7379) getting a nice start at the pin on a pretty square line.
.....
Ivan and Chris shoot across the line at the RC boat - very slightly late but with great speed and the freedom to tack should a shift or other considerations require such a move.
.....
Ivan and Chris look to be in great shape just seconds after the gun, although they'll need to flatten Akvavit to keep getting the most out of her! Less fortunate are Peter Ayres (1191), Roger Shepherd (7700) and Heider Funck (6) who are getting wind leftovers from both Uncle Al (3854) and Peter Rahn (5631). Just visible to leeward of Roger (7700) are: Ryan (7380), Stefan (16) and Hazel (4107).
.....
Less than a minute into the race. Already some boats (Heider [6], Dwight Aplevich [4606] and John deBoer [7351]) have found it prudent to tack, but will they be able to cross Reg Bunt (7227) who started late and is movingly slowly but is on starboard! Off 7227's bow, Ivan is moving well and looks to be in greatr shape. Other visible starboard tackers are, from left to right: Fred, Randy, Hazel, Keith, Stefan and Roger.
.....
Strategy 101: Uncle Al (3854) goes off on port to stay with Heider (not shown here) after just managing to cross Ivan (7350). Reg Bunt in 7227 is also moving nicely and looking well trimmed.
.....
Ivan Pedersen in 7350 continues to move well on starboard as both Roger (7700) and Peter Ayres (1191) cross behind Ivan on port tack.
.....
Looking good near the port layline  we have (from left to right) Kit Wallace (1037), Peter Rahn, Keith Haill, Ivan Pedersen and Stefan Larson.
.....
With the Toronto skyline as a nice background, Roger Shepherd (7700) and Peter Ayres (1191) both manage to cross John deBoer (7351).
.....
(left to right)  Randy Park continues left as Fred Black (7379), Hazel Hewitt (4107) and John deBoer (7351) parade in on port tack.
.....
Very close racing and a lot of hard decisions as the fleet approaches the end of the half-mile first beat. (left to right) Randy, Keith, Stefan, Fred, Peter Ayres, Ryan, Roger, Hazel and Peter Rahn. Who's ahead??? Check mast lengths!
.....
On the starboard tack lay line near the windward mark: (left to right) Roger on port, Randy, Keith, Al, Heider, Kit plus an as yet unidentifiable boat.
