Using the spi to good advantage, Al has moved past Frank into the lead as we get set to gybe onto the 2nd reach.

Paul and Marilyn (3933) challenge ...

... Sue and Steph.
...

Hard to overcome a well flown spinnaker!
...

Mike, too, slowly pulls away from Robin (6071).
...

Hmmm. Andy and Erika have their rudder up. Risky if the wind should suddenly gust!
...
Meanwhile, back at the gybe mark: It's very close among the top five.
On 3854, Angus faces the ultimate spinnaker challenge, a reach-to-reach gybe.
...

Al does it right: Priority #1 is keeping his main and jib well trimmed. That being in hand, he can advise the crew.
...

Angus keeps plugging away while Frank and Kim (no spi) get to relax. Not so Julie (864), Andrew (3140) or Carol (282).
...

Hard-working crews!!
...

Andrew (3140) wins the "crews' race". Now, if only Lori can remember to get that main in, they'll be laughing!! Dave and Carol, meanwhile, do it just right, each doing his or her job: Dave has main and jib working 100% while he leaves Carol to put the finishing touches on the spinnaker gybe.
...

A nice puff brings Sue and Steph to their gybe.
...

That same puff is making life tough for Angus (3854) who is just re-attaching the pole,
but speed is of the essence as that nasty Frank is closing in!!
...

Julie, too, is getting moral support from Marc who has his other two sails doing what they can in the meantime.
...

From shore, it looks like Frank has taken the lead while Al and Marc now have the spinnaker wherewithal for a duel. And it's nip and tuck for 4th where Dave's slower spinnaker but properly pulling main have outdone Lori's faster spinnaker but luffing main. A lesson there: the main is far more important to the overall performance than the spinnaker!!   - click here for full-size image
