The Hamptons charge across
the line in their second and final start of the day. ... |
Ed Cassidy and Kathy
Bowdring (724) are off to ... ... |
... a terrific start! ... |
Latane and Patty
(727) appear to have a starboard knock, which Tom and Kate (710)
and ... ... |
... Charlie and John
McCoy (514) have already tacked on. Note that Tom and Kate's port tack
has not lasted long as they met starboard tacker, Steve Kistler (600)
and are now doing a crash tack with Laura(?) about to get
tea-bagged on her trapeze??? If Tom had had time to think, he might
well have chosen to bear away behind 600 and keep to the favoured tack??
... |
These guys must point
really high, i.e. far closer than a Wayfarer's 45° to the wind. How
else can one explain that Latane (727) who seemed well behind Ed (724)
a few seconds ago, is now even with him or ahead??? ... |
A second or two later:
The
fun continues. Steve (600) has tacked away from Tom (710) and will now
be
getting dirt from Charlie (far left). It might well have paid
Steve to hold starboard for a few seconds longer when a tack to
port would have left him with clear air. Meanwhile, Ian Twinn and Nancy
Younan (706) appear to be getting ready to tack in order to keep clear
of Tom (710). I guess they won't be sad to leave this tack, on which
they have to be pointing 60° lower than Charlie at the moment!!!!
... |
Brian DeBrincat is about to
make the last of his ... ... |
... tacks downwind before
... ... |
... the leeward mark. ... |
With Tony Arends (134)
hanging around to watch the fun (as Marc and I are doing, too, of
course!!), and with Henry Amthor rounding just before him, Brian leaves
... ... |
... his take-down to the ... ... |
... last possible second! ... |
Bravo! Well done! And no ... ... |
... swim this time!!!
Meanwhile, John and Jon (8790) will be entitled to room - enough for a
seamanlike rounding only! - from Jason Werner (l). ... |
A nice rounding all ... ... |
... around! ... |
Mark Bellerman (136? this
number is not listed in the results!) rounds just ahead of Doug and
Chris Watson (8351). I wonder if the second-from-the-left A-Cat asked
for and/or got room???!! ... |
The second Laser start of
the day: A very nice-looking start for Liz Hancock (r), while
... ... |
... series leader, Mike
Schmidt (121384) looks thoroughly buried. Chris Legg (173196) has moved
out nicely. No sign of ... ... |
... race winner, Roger Link
in 168479. Perhaps he tacked away early??? ... |
After our second Sunday
race: The RC called it a day pretty early - before 1 p.m.??? - a
move that Marc and I welcomed, what with a 9-hour drive home to Toronto
ahead of us. And when the big batch of black clouds rolled in less than
an hour later, the RC looked positively psychic!!! Knowing how much we
like pictures of SHADES going upwind taken from this angle, we
followed ...
... |
... Allen Chauvenet ... ... |
... and got him ... ... |
... a few shots. ... |
The crew gets to sail the
Rovanpera ... ... |
... machine back to
harbour. And does it quite well, too!! |
