More SE wind as we start
Sunday's first race. Alastair (10137) and Kit (1037) lead the
charge out into the lake where there may be more wind, but ... ... |
... at the windward mark,
it's Uncle Al in the lead. Hans Gottschling (938) would have crossed Al
but overlaid the mark ... ... |
... allowing Al to tack to
leeward and ahead, lay the mark, and ... ... |
... round with the lead. ... |
Coming in on the port
layline is a dangerous move but John Cawthorne (3654) ... ... |
... pulls it off with a
tack that does not foul Fred Black. Alastair (10137) meanwhile, plays
it truly safe and will bear away for Hans (not visible here) before he
finally tacks for the mark. ... |
It's close as John rounds
2nd just ahead of Fred and Kit with ... ... |
... Hans, Alastair and Ed
Tait all right there but overstanding the mark. ... |
Hans rounds 4th as Thomas
gets set for some spinnaker action. ... |
Kit (r) had no
choice but to pinch here and ends up sandwiched ... ... |
... between Ed Tait and ... ... |
... Alastair in 6th place.
A quick switch aboard 10137 as young Andrew takes the helm to free dear
old dad for spinnaker duty. ... |
A nice, quick hoist for
Thomas Vendely as Hans sets off in pursuit of Fred (7379) and John
(3654) who are not quite as fast on their hoists. ... |
More spinnakers about to go
up. ... |
Tait & Son. ... |
A clever move for Andrew
Ryder-Turner who sails low and stays out of the fight about to take
place among (l to r) Kit (1037), Hans, John and Fred further
to windward. ... |
Something went wrong
for Geoff and Jason on the first beat who ... ... |
... round a clear last. ... |
The battle for clear air
continues while Marc and Al (3854) get to extend their lead in peace
and quiet while sailing the rhumbline straight to the gybe mark. ... |
"Land ho!!!" ... |
Fast forward to the run:
Here, Al is not sailing the rhumbline as he sails down with a puff
while Marc demonstrates perfect spi trim, keeping the old Mike Mac
chute on the edge of a luff. Note also, the slight windward heel to
counteract weather helm. ... |
Also, it was nice to have
the Albacores showing us the way to the next mark all the time. ... |
Alastair and Andrew have
made a great comeback to ... ... |
... round in a comfortable
2nd place. ... |
The switch is made once
more - do I hear Andrew saying: "Come on, Dad, stop fiddling and get
that spinnaker flying!!" |
