And the
Rebels are
off: a lovely start
for Steve Cummings in 4167 while Al Vorel in 3914
also has a nice lane
of clear air. Uncle Al in 4069 probably will be
affected by 4167's
backwind
but he expects to tack soon since starboard tack is
not in its favoured
phase.
.. |
|
because the boats in series 3rd, 4th and 2nd ... .. |
|
... Dan Hockenberry (4125) and Neil Robb (4162, beige hull with stripe) and Frank Goulay (blue hull being asphyxiated by Neil) are in even worse shape. No cause to tack 'til one of them does! Note the nice twist in the top of Al's main which is useful when sailing in disturbed air. Unidentified boat has tacked on the knock a will cross the fleet unless they get the same wind that has lifted the Vorels (yellow hull) The trouble with sailing with your girlfriend is that it distracts you from the task at hand - such as sheeting the main in (4191, Larry Schmida). |

must be wondering if he'll ever get any wind. .. |
|
The
Wayfarers are
off with Bob Frick
and Deric Jaques (3975) getting easily the best
start while Mike Codd
(CAN
80) will be OK if he keeps Redtop moving.
Main in, Bob!!! One
of
the beauties about sailing Clark Lake is that
unspectacular starts such
as Hubert's (black hull) and Jerry King's (light
green) don't
necessarily
mean you're done for in that race. Hubert and Joe
won this race by a
large
margin!

A
good-looking
start for the Sunfish:
the top three finishers for the series show why they
do well as
eventual
winner Steeley (57925), runner-up Katterheinrich
(75417)(Al's note:
gee, to me that name sounds like the German for
hung over Henry??),
and Mr. Lyke (2821) who took series 3rd all get off
to fine starts.

Dan Hockenberry and Scott Dowling win their second straight race. .. |
|
while Frank Goulay and John Weakley (3923) added another 2nd to the 3-2-2 they already had. .. |
|
for series 2nd and have a good shot at overtaking Uncle Al and Marc Bennett who were ... .. |
|
... hard
pressed
to grab a 3rd for R4069
in this one. The photog took this shot at just the
right moment: Steve
Cummings in 4167 is urging Uncle Al (4069) to tack
for the line so that
Steve can tack and protect his 4th over Scott Wright
in 3982. There
being
no tactical or strategic imperative that dictated
otherwise, Al tacked
to free up 4167 about two seconds later. With their
3rd, Al and Marc
now
had 1-1-3-3 for 7.50 points and a 1.50 pt. lead over
Frank and John in
2nd.

|
Neil Robb
scored a
second straight 6th
to run his series total to 17 points, while Al Vorel
(yellow hull,
right)
took 7th. Above, Jeff Hoover and David Johnson sneak
4128 across the
line
to grab 8th just ahead of Jack and Karen Sanderson
in 4193, while Brian
Main and Mike Wolf in 4160 were a very close 10th.
