The Clark Lake YC Fall Regatta * Jackson, MI * Sept. 21-22, 2002
Friday & Saturday ashore
photos and lies (mostly) by Uncle Al
..
(l to r) John Weakley, Marc Bennett, Uncle Al and Wayfarer Man quickly get immortalized
in front Al's home and SHADES before leaving around 7 p.m. for Clark Lake.
..
11:45 p.m. and several rain storms on the road later, we are thrilled to find
that Tim Dowling has left the beer keg ready for our use!
..
View of the grounds from our tent as Frank heads off to do his Saturday morning "toilette" before we head off for our traditional trip into Brooklin to "Papa's" and a great breakfast.
..
John (l) and Marc (red jacket) kibitz with Hubert Dauch (blue shirt) and Joe DeBrincat
since our borrowed boats are so well equipped that we have nothing better to do!
..
Joe DeBrincat: a man who looks ready to win 5 races!!
..
And Hubert Dauch looks great after some scary moments in hospital earlier this year!
..
Frank Goulay discovers an optional Rebel extra aboard his borrowed boat: a beer bottle holder!
..
We don't agree with Shakespeare who once said: "Neither a borrower or a lender be!" (l to r) John Weakley (borrower), Neil Robb (lender) and Frank Goulay (borrower). Actually, there's a joke about that line from Shakespeare: A very elegant woman is about to walk into a posh hotel in downtown Toronto, when a street person asks her: "Ma'm, could you spare a dollar (Canadian!!) for a cup of coffee?" The lady looks down her nose at him as replies: "Neither a borrower nor a lender be - William Shakespeare." The bum looks her right in the eye and responds: "F... off!! - Henry Miller." This is how I know my Shakespeare.
..
Joe DeBrincat takes his radio-controlled yacht out for a quick run to the delight of the fans.
..
John Weakley insists on sitting on Uncle Al's lap at photo time. The latter is now distracted from his twin tasks of checking the pre-race wind direction and monitoring the quality of the beer.
..
A classic W combo: Uncle Al (left) and Wayfarer Man (Frank Goulay)
..
Another W classic: Mike Codd. Weakley tried to walk into the picture but - as usual - was not fast enough!
..
Tony Krauss and Mary Abel came all the way up from Cleveland. Tony fell while trying to stop a runaway boat at the ramp, and hurt his shoulder. He tried one race but the pain was too much, so he and Mary spent the rest of the weekend relaxing in the lovely ambiance of the Clark Lake Yacht Club.
..
Regatta Chairman and PRO, Tim Dowling (the provider of Al's and Marc's Rebel!)...
..
... gets the Skippers' Meeting underway.
..
He gets ...
..
... everyone's attention.
..
Thanks, Tim, for a very well run regatta afloat and ashore - and for lending Marc and me your Rebel!
