the 2004 Warm Water Regatta

A huge return back in the wind lets Dwight and David (4606) roll into an easy second place behind the Taylors.
..

These boats were all laying the finish line after tacking to starboard at the mark. Hans' quick tack (above) in reaction to the massive starboard knock will propel him to 3rd place in this race. Every second spent on starboard tack here is wasted time as ...
..

... Hans is easily laying the finish line from which this photo is being taken.
..

John de Boer has finally seen the light and tacked, but Peter Kozak (red hull) and Alastair (far right) continue on to oblivion.
..

Race 4: The Taylors (r) cruise around the second windward mark of Saturday's finale
with a nice little edge over Peter Kozak (300), Dwight Aplevich (4606) and John de Boer (obscured by 4606).
..

Classic small lake sailing: Hans (938) rolls in toward the mark on port
while Dwight is sailing almost the same course on starboard only 50 yards away!
..

But Al Nichols (7380) will beat both of them to the mark!
..

Of course, this shift to a SW wind leaves the following leg filled with dead spots as the shore often blocks the wind.

Rod Gardner and son on the beat while Hans (938) chases Peter Kozak down what was supposed to be the final run.

The weird shifts and patchy winds continue.

... to the ...

... finish.
..

Winning form for Mark and Paul Taylor who are perfectly positioned to cope with a large port-tack knock near the finish, unlike ...
..

... John and Dolores de Boer who will have to settle for second place,
albeit not too grudgingly, since this was their best result of the day by far!
..

By the time Hans (938) reaches the finish in 4th behind Peter Kozak and Annelies Groen,
the wind has backed 45° to its original westerly direction.
..

The bar is open chez les de Boer as we recover from our first day of racing in the frozen North.

Mein host, John de Boer, is happy after his new knees passed yet another test!

The typical Dolores de Boer smile ...

... cheers us all!
