Wayfarer Weekend 2006 Trout Lake Poker Race - 2 photos by Rob Greenfield, Uncle Al and Dave Hansman |
Who could ask for a
lovelier sailing venue than this??!! ... |
Team Hansman rolling
right
along under spinnaker. ... |
Tony and Mary were
happy
without their spinnaker. It was, after all, a day on
which to relax. ... |
Leading the Poker Race
and
requiring a fair bit of zoom lens from SHADES,
were John and
Dolores. ... |

We were indeed a
lovely
sight as we ... ... |
... sailed past ... ... |
... Hemlock Island towards the ... ... |
... gap that
would let
us get back out to cross Trout Lake once more towards
pick-up point #4.
Of course, Uncle Al could not resist trying the
shortcut across a sand
bar that had gained him and Julia distance in a couple
of the Cruise
Races in the early 80's. The first time, SHADES had
spinnakered
across without incident and moved from 3rd to 1st. The
following year, we had run aground but Al had jumped
out, let the boat
re-float, run alongside the boat until the water got a
bit deeper,
jumped back in, all without Julia letting the spi
collapse even once.
This year, alas ...
... |
... the water in the
middle
was less than the required six inches deep (note water
level on Julia's
ankles). After taking the required picture, we manhandled SHADES backwards and were soon ... ... |
... off again in hot
pursuit of ... ... |
... Dave ... ... |
... John and ... ... |
... Tony. ... |
It was a lovely reach
... ... |
... across the lake. ... |
John and Dolores,
followed
by ... ... |
... the Hansman clan
approach their 4th waypoint where I believe one can just
make out Erinn
on the beach, waiting to wade. ... |
Julia and Al held
their
spinnaker until the last dog was hung, while ... ... |
... Dave did an
earlier
douse, no doubt moved by the fact that he wanted to take
no risk of
running over his own daughter. ... |
In his motor boat, Rob
Greenfield had lots of time to capture other beauties
like this cloud
formation to the NW. ... |
Erinn Hansman gets set
to
hand off to dear old dad, or perhaps to son, Mitchell? ... |
I do believe that's
Dave
holding the boom to starboard until the hand-off is made and Erinn's head won't get hit by a flying boom! ... |
And they're off with a
... ... |
... lovely good-luck
smile
from Erinn, a smile that is returned by ... ... |
... Mitchell and
Carol.
Family life at its best! ... |
And the proud father
sails
intrepidly on. |
