Race #5:
course: start near #6 - 5-4-3-6-5-4 - finish at 3 winds: NW 5-10 knots weather: clearing, a bit warmer as sun broke through - about 15C |

The best start
goes to
Bob Frick
(3975) but he's headed for the soft spots in behind
Eagle Point. George
Blanchard (CAN80) has already tacked and is move
beautifully to the
better
breeze in mid-lake while Al (3854) has started on
port and waited for
Bob
Frick, John deBoer and Tony Krauss (2389) to go by
before cutting
across
in front of Mike Anspach (4271).

While George
(CAN80)
and Al
(3854) speed into the middle of the lake, Bob Frick
(far left) seems
to be tacking into a very uncomfortable spot what
with Tony coming
along
full tilt on starboard!!!
At #5, it was
Al, again
taking advantage
of the port lay line for extra wind, who rounded
just a head of George
and John with the other three not far behind. On the
reach to #4, Al
pulled
away slightly but it was Bob Frick made the biggest
gamble and the
biggest
gains as he went quite close to the windward shore
and moved all the
way
up to 2nd place before a couple of dead spots
brought him down a bit.

- in hopes of getting away from the windward shore a bit faster. ..... |
For a while it
looked
as though
John would pass Al by sailing higher, but then the
other chutes went
up.
Left to right: John deBoer, Tony Krauss, Bob Frick
(the only one able
to
sail even close to the rhumb line towards #6!),
Uncle Al and the first
of the Interlakes!

Bob Frick
briefly moves
out
on George - an interesting demonstration of how
Bob's tightened luff
has
opened the leech of 3975's spi while the reverse
appears to be
happening
on CAN80!
