Race #3 action - Part 2

John deBoer (7351) about to make his move past the spinnaker-less Hubert Dauch who has been a bit slow to wing his jib. Excellent rounding by 3rd-place Gale Shoemaker whose jib is already whisker-poled out, and ditto for 4th-place Ed Kraft. Uncle Al (3854) is 5th and just rounding with no one too close behind him.  - larger image here

John deBoer (extreme right) has moved past Hubert (3636) into the lead while Gale (93) is closing in. Spinnaker flying due to windward heel and Al holding the boom out for a run, Uncle Al (3854) is poised to make a move on Ed (6751), while 1115, Joe DeBrincat has caught a bit of a breeze to speed him towards the mark.  - larger image here

Dolores and John in perfect downwind form as they approach the leeward mark with a 50-yard lead over Uncle Al.
...
Ed (6751) and Gale (93) close in Hubert who is comfortable but would be faster if he stood up with one leg forward of the main thwart and heeled the boat to windward while holding the boom out!
...
Bob Brown and Grant Bartlett (1395) prepare to round the mark and give chase to Richard Johnson (10139) and Robert Hart (10195) while an unidentifiable W, Geoff Edwards (9483) and Peter Hylen (port tack) finish a slow beat.
...
Although this photo doesn't indicate a straining spi, the spinnaker has done Richard some good
as he has moved away from Robert Hart quite nicely.

...
This spi would at least hang in a better position if W10139 were heeled to windward with Richard holding the boom out.
Going this slow, it wouldn't hurt to put the crew weight even further forward to reduce wetted surface!

...
Jim McIntyre rounds just ahead of Ted Benedict (?)...
...

... with W2957 in hot (?) pursuit. Ralph Roberts has turned the helm over to Jenny Long who might have an easier time holding the boom out by standing up. Weight could be further forward and to windward to reduce wetted area!
...
When the final Saturday race was cancelled, no one complained. This picture explains why!!!  - larger image here
...
John Schneider (left) gets ready to record the finishers. Although the lake looks pretty glassy, the RC flags are moving...
... and so are competitors, be it ever so slowly!!!
...
...as John and Dolores deBoer receive congratulations in their fine first from 2nd-place Uncle Al.
...
Ed Kraft crosses the line in 3rd, happy to have beaten Gale Shoemaker (4th) and Butch Minson (5th, blue boat).
...
Here it is:  Proof that Ed beat Gale. The rest of the fleet got very little wind as
they (and the RC!!!) were out for a long time until the last so-called dog was hung.
