Saturday: before Race 2
photos by Uncle Al
..
Between races, some were in such a rush to get to the free draft beer, they didn't have time to lower their sails.
..
After John Weakley went ashore to get us each a beer, we hove to and gently zigzagged eastwards down the narrow lake
and ended up off the Beach Bar (just to the left of centre).
..
Over an hour later, the RC finally sounded the half-hour warning.
The only benefit from this lengthy delay was an increased wind strength as the fleets headed out for race 2.
..
The boats get their tuning adjusted for better winds as the RC accepts the Race 2 check-ins.
..
The skies tended to look rain-laden but the occasional shaft of bright sunlight...
..
... made Uncle Al put down his beer and grab the camera.
..
How can Corinthian look so bow-heavy? Did Tom and Bob bring out a keg?
..
Rebel builder, Dave Nickels (striped shirt), surveys the main competition as race 2 draws near.
..
Of course, the better winds brought the potential for better smash-ups. No time for Al to focus the camera on this one:
Just hear a loud yell, turn, see, grab camera and shoot!!
..
The George Blanchard of the Rebel fleet, Ben Hassell (green shirt) conquered aches and pains to be out there!
..
Former Regatta Chair, Tim Dowling got a surprise volunteer in his search for a crew: his daughter.
She says she had a great time!
..
CLYC Commodore, Don Hockenberry, gives a regal wave from Impact which, if the stories we heard are to be believed, is aptly named!
..
The Sunfish (first fleet) countdown begins. Note how the course is cleverly indicated by white numbers on red or green backgrounds to signify whether that mark is to be left to port or starboard. The fleet starting order is indicated by boards with the fleet symbols on them - except Wayfarers! So who's going to make a board with a winged W for them during the off-season??!!
