Race #4: B >
63 > 4 > B > 6 > 1 > B Winds: 3 -
6 knots NW. Grant, Brian, Peter and Al all got
off to good starts, but Al was better in synch with the
shifts, especially near #6, to round 1st. A close spi
reach to #4 saw Al ghost along while most of the
pursuers hit a dead spot which allowed Al to increase
his lead. The wind gods continued to smile on Al down a
virtual run to mark B and the subsequent beat back to #6
and he opened up...

... a massive lead on
the run from #6 to #1. In the Rick Goldt photo above,
Al is about to pass the RC boat at while his closest
pursuer is just visible on the extreme right edge of
the photo. Note that SHADES has also passed
all the Darts, etc. who had a 5-minute head start!
It's a relaxing sail when everything goes right for
you!

The fight over 2nd was
much closer: Judging by mast height, Brian Jeffs
(9235) is holding 2nd over Peter Rahn (5631) and Grant
Town (9239) who are pretty even while Dwight Aplevich
(orange & white spi) is also in the hunt.

After Al and Dave
completed their horizon job, boats 2 through 4 provided
far more excitement as Grant Town and Brian Jeffs on
starboard and Peter Rahn on port converged on the same
spot near the RC boat at the finish. In the end, Peter
managed to tack underneath Brian and Grant and then
stick his nose across the line a split second before
Grant who did the same to Brian. Less than one
second separated 2nd from 4th!!
Another close finish as
John and Joan Goldi scored their best result of the
series, a 5th just in front of Robert and Scott Kennedy
and George Blanchard with Mike Codd. 8th place went to
Len Macdougall with Peter Wilkins while Dwight Aplevich
explored some dead spots as he dropped to 9th in front
of Conestoga club mates, Al Nichols with Mike Miethig.
