Winds definitely
getting even weaker as Brian Jeffs, Grant Town and Al
Schönborn fought an exciting
battle up the beat to #6 with others occasionally
looking like they might take the lead. After a poor
start Peter Rahn was faced with an uphill battle all
the way. Near #6, it was once more Uncle Al who
appeared to have this area pegged on this particular
day as he moved into the lead near that mark and
began to extend the margin on the first of two free
legs over this shortened course.

Lots of shifts on the
beat from #2 to the finish where Al had trouble getting
in synch. Second-place Brian Jeffs and Scott Bamford
meanwhile took a long left to the moorings, got a breeze
and rolled in to cross Al only 100 m. from the line -
only to sail into a hole. Now both leaders were
virtually becalmed and Al got lucky when the wind
returned to his area first which enabled him to complete
the June Bug sweep of an amazing six bullets!
Brian and Scott took a
very close second while Dwight and Pat Aplevich
completed a nice come-back by edging Grant Town with
Hazel Hewitt for 3rd. Peter and Alex Rahn got back into
5th before the race ran out. 6th place went to
Fanshawe's Jens and Sharon Biskaborn ahead of Al Nichols
and Mike Miethig while our Michiganders, Bob Frick and
Ken Greywall took a solid 8th. Completing the top 10
were Fanshawe's Len Macdougall (9th) and Robert Kennedy
(10th).
