This was a
nearly perfect race for Marc and Al who won fairly
handily. The fight over second place was much closer
as Gale Shoemaker (93)
..hung on to edge out Hubert Dauch (far right with Phyllis hiking), while Nick Seraphinoff (864, middle) would come on to grab 4th place. |

Butch
Minson crossed in 6th. If Butch had a crew here, he
would no doubt have that crew sheet the jib in a bit
more. This is a fine illustration of how easily the
top of the jib leech moves a long way. Sheeting in
another inch would likely bring that upper leech in
to where the whole sail, up and down, presents a
nice even, effective angle of attack to the wind.
Sheeted out maybe an inch too far, the upper leech
has fallen way off, a fact reflected by the relative
angles of the upper and lower inside ticklers.

Race
2: Taking advantage of the fine,
strengthening breeze, the RC wasted little time in
starting the second race. This time, we positioned
our hove-to SHADES just to windward of the
start line between the two boats with red flags and
off to the right. The above picture was taken just a
few seconds before the C Scow start.
