Race 2 - part 1

Doug (r) and John prepare for race 2.

Alas, the aperture priority still washes out the CWA camera pics as we line up for the start of race 2. Uncle Al (green hull) is sitting near the RC boat as Doug (blue hull) gets set to ...
...

... drive through to leeward with Peter Rahn (black hull) approaching ...
...

... to leeward of Doug.
...

Uncle Al (dark hull) gets the best start - a touch too good, in fact, he'll be OCS (over early).
...

Roger and Joanne find just enough room to squeeze in between the RC boat and a leeward boat.
...

Bill Fyfe (yellow hull) is moving out nicely, while Al (dark hull) moves past ...
...

... Mark Taylor. Brian Mills (nearest to camera) tacks for clear air.
...

Start attempt #2 for Peter Rahn. A lesson to be learned here: Peter and Alex took 2nd in this race.
So don't lose heart if you get a bad start - especially in a place that features voodoo winds.
...

The fleet gurgles off the line in light winds.
...

Actually, this may have been race 1?
...

Bill Fyfe (937), Andrew Gumley (4610) and John de Boer (7351) look for greener (windier?) pastures, while ...
...

... the rest of us continue on starboard.
...

nearing the first windward mark
...

The fleet inches its way downwind and downriver with ...
...

... Uncle Al clinging to a narrow lead.
...

Al (red spi) pulls away a bit as the run wears on, but ...
...

... watch out for Bill Fyfe (yellow spi) who is beginning to make his move.

Uncle Al and Marc (r) have emerged from the fleet that was closely bunched at the leeward mark. As the leaders pass the start area, Al has a nice lead over Mark (7673) and, more importantly, first-race winners, Peter and Alex Rahn (l).
...

John and Dolores demonstrate perfect light-air upwind form ...
...

... but so do Marc and Al off their bow. Mark (l) meanwhile, is pointing high but going a bit slower.
...

John tacks and will search for happiness over on the right side but Al (l) won't tack until Peter follows John.
...

Good form for George and Mike here, too.
...

Near the port layline, Uncle Al has his nearest race 1 rivals - Mark (7673) and Peter (286) - safely tucked away.
