A slight start line
adjustment by the RC and ... ... |
... race 4 is set to
get underway. We're well into the final minute as Mark (nearest to
camera) checks his watch, and the fleet begins to jockey for position. ... |
Brian (4675) tries to
get through to leeward of Peter (286), while Bill (yellow hull) ... ... |
... defends the
windward end against Mark (7673) and George. ... |
Only a second or two
to go to the start signal. Peter (286), Al (3854) and Roger crank into
their sails to get up their speed in time for the gun, while Doug
reaches down the line going the other way before tacking ... ... |
... right at the gun.
A late back in the wind has ... ... |
... favoured the pin
end - for the moment at least. ... |
And they're off! ... |
A belated RC boat end
start is beginning to look good for Dave (282) who is getting a slight
lift. ... |
But
the starboard lift is fleeting and most boats - including Mark (7673),
Bill (937) and Brian (4675) have tacked to the lifted port tack. Even
better, they seem headed for better pressure as well. Al (far left)
meanwhile, is paying the price of having started down the line where
there is a great risk of having someone like Mike (2nd from left)
pin you on the wrong tack - which Mike did for ever and ever and ever. No more pics from this race which saw Peter and Alex Rahn take strangle-hold on the series with yet another first, while Al at long last got away from his predicament shown above, to rescue a 2nd ahead of John and Dolores de Boer, whose 3rd would be their best finish of the 2004 Ontarios. Andrew Gumley and Mike Frame finally put most of it together to take a fine 4th while a Bill Fyfe 5th pretty much took Buttercup out of title contention. |
