Our hardworking Race
Committee ... ... |
... fine-tunes the course
prior to race #3. ... |
Sue and Stephan ... |
Jason and Lori start race 3
on port tack but alas, by the time they cross ... ... |
... the start line, their
hoped-for clear air has been grabbed off by Uncle Al (left) and
Doug (right). ... |
Al and Marc have finally
made it out onto the water after missing races 1 and 2 while waiting
for epoxy to dry, and are leading going up the second beat and ... ... |
... are about to put an end
to Frank and Mike's (648) apparent two-race winning streak which
subsequently became a one-race win streak after Frank was assessed a
20% penalty in race 1 for not wearing his PFD. ... |
Dave and Carol Hansman look
good as they pass the start/finish area during beat #2. ... |
A lovely view from the
leeward mark as the fleet negotiates the final run. ... |
While Doug and Frank (r)
fight over 2nd place, Al (3854) goes a bit high of the rhumb line to
cover and will subsequently approach the mark on a short starboard,
douse the spinnaker about two lengths from the mark ... ... |
... and gybe around the
mark. Not the world's fastest rounding, entailing a 180° turn as it
does. Still, it gives Marc a chance to do his thing by grabbing the
mainsheet and bringing it in at impressive speed!!! ... |
Doug (1366) has put every
effort into holding his lead over Frank to the leeward mark. But like
Al ... ... |
... he will have to put in
two fast gybes right near and at the mark. Note the major rudder
turbulence as Doug tries to make a turn that is sharp enough to prevent
Frank from cutting inside Doug at the mark. ... |
A fine rounding by Doug
which will leave Frank (648) hung up in Doug's backwind - unless he
does what he's doing here: he tacks. This is not the recommended
procedure, however. Since Frank will have Doug pinned on port tack for
the next minute or two, Frank could easily get his speed up on port,
and then do a planned and much speedier tack.
... |
Not having anyone right
next to him, Fred (7379) is in a good position to make the recommended
wide-and-close rounding as he starts the final half a beat to the
finish. ... |
It's a close battle among
Sue (7928), Jason and Lori (3140) and ... ... |
... W282, Dave and Carol
Hansman.
A quick tack into clear air here will eventually permit Dave to move
past Jason and Lori before the finish. ... |
Paul and Marilyn prepare
for a nice, measured rounding. ... |
Alan Asselstine and son,
Mark, have that two-sail cruising look as they proceed down the run and
... ... |
... back to the finish in a
perfect breeze that will take us all to a quick lunch ashore. |
