Ottawa's
Monique Girard and Frank Goulay check out the waters
they will soon be
sailing. ... |

That's better! ... |
Dennis Figley
prepares to go out under main alone as the sun
sparkles on the
wind-whipped water. ... |
And Dennis and
Judy are off nicely - although they will not have full
control until
the water is deep enough to permit a fully down rudder
blade. ... |

This wind even attracted the windsurfers to Button
Bay! ... |
Almost all set
to roll! ... |
Uncle Al
screwed up on the focus here - but it does
convey the
atmosphere! ... |
The first of
our flotilla head SW towards the lighthouse on the
other side. ... |
Last but not
least: SHADES finally hits the water. ... |
Frank already
has the spinnaker (orange, on port side) ready to fly. ... |
One
last
picture
of our fleet heading across the lake before the
camera goes
into Frank's water-proof bag. A lot of action went
unrecorded by Al's
camera since it was so well wrapped, that Al was too
lazy to get it
out. We did however have lots of fun beating up
towards the lighthouse
before turning around and hoisting the spinnaker.
After a snarl-up on
the first attempt, the second attempt was successful
and we had a very
brief plane before the wind died down and we decided
to gybe the
spinnaker, a course change which oddly enough left
us pointing straight
at the marina and bar in Westport. Since Frank had
not been there last
time (in 2000), we
felt he should have the whole experience and decided
to make a brief
stop at the bar before following the group. Well,
one beer led to
another, and then it rained for a while, and all in
all, we were there
longer than we had anticipated.
... |
We thought we
would get some Wayfarer company when ... ... |
Roxanne and Al
came in to the marina in their W658 without a rubrail. ... |
But they heard
the call of duty better than Frank and I, and turned
around to follow
the group. ... |
Likewise Bill
Harkins and Margie McKelvey ... ... |

well reefed W2526. |
