Race 4 pics
by Rick Goldt

A classic: Dwight and Pat (l) have held port to near the the point on the north side of the mouth of Wye Creek where ...
...

... they found and tacked into the starboard lift. Note how much better their lift is than 2nd-place John's after the latter tacked a bit too early.
...

A closer-up view would reveal a very pained look on Marc Bennett's face (r) who is not happy with Al's decision to try his luck on the left under the Race Hut cliff this early. Hmmm! I guess Marc was right. Look at ...
...

... John (7351) and Dwight (4606) who are killing us by sailing about 40° higher on the same tack as we are.
...

Dwight (r) continues to sail a nice starboard slant towards the windward mark ahead of John (l) and Mike Codd.
...

Once committed to the left side, Uncle Al (l) had to pray for a big port tack lift - a long shot at best.

The starboard tackers look lovely as they approach the windward mark.
...

Uncle Al (3854) comes out from under the cliff looking a little better but will have a ...
...

... a long row to hoe to catch the leaders (l to r) Dwight, John and Mike.

No stopping Dwight and Pat Aplevich in this one as they round ahead of John and Dolores whom they "push" onto the less favoured starboard tack at the start of this short beat back to the finish. Al, meanwhile, has managed to slip past Mike into (a distant) 3rd place.
...

Completing an excellent race, Dwight and Pat get set to cross the finish line with an expanded lead over 2nd-place ...
...

... John and Dolores de Boer whose lifted port puff is too little, too late.
...

Al and Marc are already discussing how to avoid Al's upwind errors made in this race as they cross 3rd. One of the many joys of sailing with Marc is that he never wastes time and effort on placing blame.
...

Alastair finished 5th, behind Mike Codd and ahead of ...
...

... Jens Biskaborn.
...

Al Nichols (r) and Len Macdougall were next across the line, with our ...
...

... rookies, Leo and Daryl, making a nice showing in 9th.
...

In a most exciting finish, Bob (3571) will just barely nose out Jeff (7220).
