the 2004 Midwinters
Sunday
photos by Uncle Al and Michele Parish

After Sunday's racing was cancelled due to cool, very shifty winds gusting well above 20 knots,
Mike Murto fired up the barbecue and it was free hot dogs for all - which went well with the free draught beer.
...

Soon we were called together for the awards ceremony.
A far cry from last year's which we endured, huddled in a cold, wet tent.
...

A lovely, bright building!
...

Under the approving eye of his wife, Michele, Richard Johnson samples one of
the many oranges that Gale Shoemaker brought to us visitors from his farm.
...

The Flying Scots added a touch of "colour" to the proceedings.
...

Vicky De Brincat and her perky daughter ...

... Noelle.
...

3rd place in the non-spinnaker fleet went to Ted Benedict (with Fred Smith).
...

Mike Murto (l) presents the 2nd-place trophy, non-spinnaker, to a beaming Jim McIntyre who ...
...

... with crews Ted Benedict (Friday) and Glenda Libby (Saturday) became the first winner of the Bob Brown Memorial Trophy as the Midwinters' Most Improved team. Lovely to have Bob Brown's memory honoured in this way since Bob was one of the people instrumental in creating this marvellous Wayfarer event.
...

Jim and Glenda also got the green Most Improved pennants provided by the CWA.
...

(l to r) Hank Van Twyver, Richard Kinnie and Stan Boydon: Non-spinnaker Champions.
...

A fine 3rd place (Spinnaker Fleet) went to Geoff Edwards with Pat Reardon (r).
...`

Spinnaker runners-up were Nick Seraphinoff and his step-grandson, Joe Blackmore.
...

Marc Bennett (l) and Uncle Al took the Spinnaker Fleet title ...
...

... as well as the overall title and trophy.
...

The new model Wayfarer tote bags, created and donated by Hans Gottschling (W938),
our covermaker par excellence, went to Joe De Brincat ...
...

... and Gale Shoemaker in recognition of their enthusiastic Wayfarer spirit ...
...

... as well as to Dotty Murto, our Regatta Chair.
Dotty was also presented with this fine craft as a "thank you" from all the competitors.
...

And so, we got ready to head home. Richard and Michele pack up the Chick'n for the trip back to Charlotte, NC
where we are to meet them in late April, having been invited to sail in their Cottonwood Regatta.
