A bit much main twist for Gale and François here. If they can't hike the boat down and need to ease the main, they should add some vang. That would let them point better! This is why a nice functional vang needs to be a high priority for any racer.
...

A golden battle: Richard and Michele round the windward mark just ahead of Dave and Kevin.
...

The Chick'n looking great.
...

As are Dave (l) and Kevin in Murphy's Law.
...

As one can tell from apparent mast height, the order of the top four down the second run is: Marc, Joe, Jim, Richard.
...

No spinnaker for Kevin and Dave but they are still very much in contention as the leaders approach the start of the final beat.
...

More excitement on the run: four W's virtually even: nearest to furthest away: Jeff, Peter, Jim McIntyre, Jim Lingeman
...

And all four of them are chasing Ted Benedict with Charley Jensen!
...

Have they passed him or has the camera angle changed?
...

The final beat: Note how Marc again is taking no chances and has put half of his lead onto each tack so as to ...
...

... remain between Joe and the finish line.
...

Joe and Nick (1115) in turn work to protect their 2nd place against Jim and Linda (2458).
...

Without a whisker pole to wing the jib, Fred Hill has to work that little bit harder,
as he and Ellen fight it out against Scott and Lori.
...

Marc and Al get the first-place beep. Note how SHADES has enough vang to keep the main leech
from twisting off excessively even though the main is eased about a foot.
...

No mistakes for veterans, Joe and Nick, who complete another fine race in 2nd place.
...

Wow! What a battle over 3rd at the finish. By tacking underneath Jim (2458) and Richard (10139) instead of crossing their transoms near the finish line, Dave Moring (10245) has left himself the chance to beat one or both of the other two. Of course, if he can't lay the mark, Dave will lose both boats, but with no other boats close behind, there's no risk that he'll do any worse than he would have by taking their transoms a hundred yards further back.
...

Perfect! Dave just lays the mark. Although he just got pipped by Jim (3rd), Dave snatches 4th from Richard.
...

Disappointment for Michele and Richard - a 5th that was oh so close to being a 3rd! But they will doubtless
be cheered by the fact that they have sailed a much improved race over their first one.
...

Anyway, there's no time to mope or glory, as the next race is coming right up!
...

An 8th-place finish for Tony and Andy who ...
...

... just edge out Jeff and Carl at ...
...

... the finish.
