Midwinters Lake Eustis Sailing Club * February 2-4 , 2007 Friday: race 3.1 pics by Andy Douma |
The race 3 countdown has
reached its final few seconds. Al and Marc (2nd from left)
have discussed
their race plan: With conditions very much like those in
race 2 where
the right side of the beat seemed to pay, they have
decided to go with
an RC boat end start, where Al shouldn't have too much
trouble bailing
out onto port tack early.
... |
As Marc (3854) counts
down the
final few seconds, Al has waited for Richard to move
faster before
sheeting in, just in case Richard will cut the RC boat
so close that Al
will get cut off. Mike Murto (2959) is wisely
luffing his main to
slow down so that he won't risk getting wedged into the
RC boat by Al.
Tony (4105) won't have much wind to work with off this
start, but Ted
(991) is moving nicely and seems to have fairly clear
air. Ted ended up
going below Dave (far
right)
at full speed but has now ...
... |
... ended up right in Joe's
dirt (4th from right).
(l to
r) Al,
Richard, Tony, Dave, Ted, Joe, Scott,
Butch, Jim Lingeman. Al has started right in Richard's backwind, but ... - for full view of this pic, click here ... |
... with (l to r) Gale, Mike,
Jim and Jeff
not moving well, Al is well placed to ... ... |
... tack away without
fouling
anyone. ... |
And we'll have Kevin (l) and Dave
to speed test
with. ... |
Also tacking towards the
right
side are Joe and Nick who now have Butch and Janice in
their backwind. ... |
Having also tacked to port,
Scott and Lori keep a very watchful eye out for starboard
boats. ... |
Dave (far left) has tacked
back to
starboard and crossed Geoff and Ted. ... |
Pacing each other nicely on
starboard tack are Joe (1115) and Richard (10139). ... |
Jim and Randy (3991) are
partially in Joe's wind shadow, but still have lots of
pressure from
this nice breeze. ... |
Near the starboard layline
we
have Butch (3951), Tony (4105) and Geoff being captured by our thus anonymous photographer with his ... ... |
... equally unidentified
(as
yet) chauffeur. ... |
Mike Murto and Chuck
McLaughlin
work their way up the beat. The off-center traveller will
hurt their
pointing. ... |
An exciting moment: Tony
bears
away for the starboard tacker (Jim) while Geoff just makes
it ... ... |
... across Jim's bow. ... |
Jeff and Carl check to see
if
they have reached the starboard layline. ... |
Not yet - if Dave Moring
(10245)
is anything to go by, and he normally is. ... |
Keeping Sharky nice and flat,
Jim and Randy
near the starboard layline. ... |
Having gone middle right,
Al
comes in on port and is about to tack on the starboard
layline just off
Richard's bow (r). ... |
One more short hitch on
port for
Mike and Chuck, ... |
Lori checks to see if Scott
can
tack here. ... |
As Scott (555) puts in his
last
short tack to the mark on port, the leaders have just
begun their run.
Richard (10139) and Geoff (9483) race to see who can get
the spinnaker
drawing first, while Kevin already has the jib poled out
aboard Murphy's Law. ... |
Rounding just ahead of
Butch,
Peter Hylen is ... ... |
... in good shape once
again. |
