Midwinters Lake Eustis Sailing Club * February 2-4 , 2007 Friday: race 3.3 pics by Andy Douma |
Having rounded onto the
final beat with a fair cushion, Al will now hold port
until Geoff (r)
sails about half his distance to the mark when Al
rounded. At that point, Al will tack, and then tack
again as Geoff rounds. In theory, that should put Al
directly between Geoff and the finish line (provided the
beat is more or less "square"). Richard still has the
inside track on Joe, and of course, there are still Dave
and Jim to be considered, off to the left somewhere?
Unfortunately, our photographer did not capture any of
what promised to be an exciting battle for position and
rounding at the leeward mark.

Jim and Linda Heffernan in
fine - if a bit fuzzy - trim on the final beat. ... |
Geoff and Ted head for
"home" after ... ... |

finish. ... |
Dave Moring and Kevin
Rankin cruise across in 3rd. Their 5-4-3 placings on the day reflected a nicely positive learning curve. ... |
Nick (l) and Joe cross
4th, just ahead of Tony and Mary. However, the race was so
close that by the time Tony crossed the line, three more boats had edged him out: ... |
Richard and Michele (5th),
Jim and Linda (6th) and ... ... |
... Butch with Janice
(7th). ... |
An eagle eye can see the
tiny bit of red (3rd
from right) as Al and Marc have decided to race
to shore to have some draft beer before meeting with Captain Morgan. - for full view of this pic, click here ... |
Dennis (r) and Sam will have
to wait to get their post-race refreshments as they remain
on duty. ... |
Another 9th for Jeff and
Carl who are followed across the line by ... ... |
... Peter and Dave. ... |
Another 13th for Scott and
Lori. ... |
Mary and Tony cruise
towards the post-race festivities. ... |
A lovely, peaceful end to
... ... |
... a first day that
brought us three ideal races. ... |
With Scott at ... ... |
... the helm, and ... ... |
... Lori applying the
brakes by pushing boom out and backing the main ... ... |
... the potentially tricky
landing is made to look easy. Well done! Francois is even
there to lend a hand, if necessary. ... |
Devotion to duty: Lori
makes sure the borrowed sails are down and properly stowed
before her trip to the keg. ... |
Ted doubtless finds this
haul-out to be a piece of cake compared his home haul-outs
at Hayling such as ... ... |
... this one that I have
dredged up from my nostalgia files from the 1983 Worlds. |
