Uncle Al (l) and Marc hang around the RC boat as Marc is about to start his watch on the upcoming warning flag from the RC boat.
...

Looks like Michael will helm this race with Fred as crew.
...

John and Dolores check the line as the increasing heat of the day brings stronger gusts.
...

Carol hikes as Dave keeps "a good look-out".
...

Françoise and Doug rest up for the serious hiking that is about to be required.
...

The Silverfox is ready.
...

As are Bernie and Henry.
...

A fine ride for Dwight and Pat.
...

Boats gather near the RC boat end as the countdown has entered its final minute.
...

They're off! The windward end is currently a bit favoured. Al (3854) is better shape than Michael (7379) and Andrew (Quantum jib), since Al is the only one who won't have to worry about backwind from a boat to leeward and ahead.
...

Having spotted a gap beside the RC boat, Sue and Stephan (4677) have come in with full speed and will be in good shape, but Andrew, just to leeward of Sue, will likely end up getting buried - first with backwind from Michael (7379) and then blanketed by Sue. Coming in even later are ...
...

... Doug (1366) and John (7351) who now have freedom to tack, should they wish to do so - which they won't, since ...
...

... there has been a substantial starboard tack lift. Judging by the apparent height of Al's mast (3854), he has pulled ahead
nicely and might be able to tack, but won't do that while he's lifted this much. Meanwhile, Andrew (9657) is getting ...
...

... leftovers from all the boats to windward and ahead. For this amount of breeze and his crew weight, Andrew (9657) should have considerably more vang tension on, in order to flatten his main. Conversely, Michael and Fred (7379) have overbend wrinkles in their main from too much vang and/or not enough cunningham.
...

After starting near the pin, Dwight (4606), Henry (3593) and Geoff (9483) will be behind the whole windward end group in this lift. But this deficit is only a potential deficit unless they tack across during the starboard lift and confirm it. Otherwise, these three should be in great shape, once the return oscillation favours port tack!
...

Indeed, notice how Geoff and Matt (9483) have come out of the left corner on a port lift, and have rounded first onto the run. Above, the only representative of the group that started near the RC boat, is Uncle Al (3854) who is in an exciting dogfight with Dave (282, beside Al) and Dwight (4606).
...

The long beat past the start/finish line again afforded Gillian great opportunities to photographically record
upwind form. Here, Dolores checks for starboard boats, as Silverfox zips along on port.
...

Doug moves well on starboard but ...
...

... tacks on a knock.
...

Wrinkles gone from their main, Michael and Fred are looking great! Note how Michael is gently
easing W7379 up towards the wind to reduce heel before it becomes a weather helm problem.
...

The Pegler father-daughter duo on a nice port-tack lift.
...

Another lovely downwind moment for Eclairelle.
...

Ditto for John - although he has a competitor trying to take his wind!!
...

A hot duel between Doug (1366) and Geoff (9483) while Team Hansman (282) contemplates spinny possibilities.
