2005 North Bay Wayfarer Weekend
Monday: Trout Lake Poker Race - 2
photos by Carol Hansman, Doug Netherton, Julia & Al Schonborn

Banshee sets off with Dave, Carol and Mitchell aboard. Dave gives the all clear and we are off - except Al who is off next door at the outfitters' answering nature's call, and who will be sailing SHADES (still beached at this point) with his wife, Julia, today.

Fred and Michelle were among the first to get the breeze - more race details near the end of Uncle Al's report

After the second waypoint we crossed to the north side of Trout Lake towards ...
...

... a watery pick-up from Dave's daughter, Erinn, who was holding her baby in one arm and our plastic envelopes in the other while standing in waist-deep water.

Meanwhile, Erinn's son, Mitchell, has the helm aboard Banshee on the ...

... long run diagonally across Trout Lake. Ross and Breanne have successfully hoisted their spinnaker and are pulling away from Sue and Henry going wing-on-wing.

The breeze has been picking up ...

... nicely.

Our final - and somewhat challenging pick-up was from Jack Wallace at the end of his suitably marked dock.

The Wallace dock being a lee shore, you can see that trying to deliver without getting whacked by a boom was a tad tricky for Jack. In retrospect, it would have been a safer approach for us sailors to come along a few lengths wide of the dock, gybe and face the way opposite to the way Fred's boat is facing above. That would leave us close-hauled for the pick-up and Jack with fewer headaches! But in the end, Jack came through unscathed, and we all made it safely to our ...

... at the McNutts' where we had a fine welcoming committee.
...

Being early arrivals, Fred and Michelle ...
...

... got their choice of beaching spots.
...

Completing the Poker Run in 3rd place were Doug and Fançoise.
...

Here, they are about to get their finish beep from Chief Scorer, John de Boer (seated).

A nice puff for the Brown Bomber as Ken and Graeme are ...
...

... on their way to a fine ...

... 4th.
